Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

A mono signal CANNOT have phase cancelation within itself. There has to be at least 2 signals from the same source for there to be any potential phase misalignment. I don't know about acoustic pickups... there must be something within them that has a potential, but once the sound is a mono...

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

Putting a speaker in the Thru jack overrides the Suhr's internal load, it doesn't run in parallel with it. It's 8 ohms only. You either use the internal load or a speaker, but you can't record silently with a speaker connected. I'm not recording the speaker, I'm recording the mono DI into IRs...

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

Yeah, that's my point... there aren't any true stereo load boxes. If you have a 2 or 3 amp rig, you'll need 2 or 3 load boxes to record it directly.

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

Phase cancelation can't happen in a mono signal. With a speaker plugged into Thru, it sounds one way (good). Without the speaker, it sounds another way (boomy and scooped). I do run a stereo wet/dry/wet rig that I've recreated with IRs, and I have a Nugen Aligner plugin to correct any phase...

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

But if you already have a 2-amp stereo rig with stereo FX in the loop, a single speaker input on a load box isn't gonna work with that in stereo. You'd have to reroute your whole FX loop to be in the load box's loop. Then move it all back to the amps' FX loops when you want to use your speakers...

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

Where do you get that? A search brings up tons of YouTube and forum mentions, and a few sold Reverb listings, but none actually for sale anywhere. If it only has a mono speaker input, then stereo output is pretty useless (like the "stereo" Captor). You still need 2 load boxes if you have an...

    Favorite attenuator

I want it to match my speakers. My IRs are of my speakers, I made them with my mics, the same way I record the speakers. With the IRs loaded in the WoS plugin with everything flat and no power amp sim, and the signal from the slave out or the Suhr RL (they sound exactly the same). When a V30...

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

If they ever send it... I ordered it on Saturday and it's still not shipped and they're not responding to any emails.

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

Yeah, I'm no good with soldering. I have Tourette's syndrome (a movement disorder), so I can't hold still and be precise with the iron. I burned the finish on my brand new bass while replacing the pickups and I melted the beveled edge of an expensive custom pickguard when replacing the pickups...

    Favorite attenuator

Gotta love all the internet know-it-alls that make statements about gear they've never used as if they were published facts. How is the Hot Plate for silent recording? Everyone swears by the Suhr RL, but I've been working with one for a week now and the internal load makes the line out -> my...

Any Worthy "Upgrade" from the Suhr RL:IR?

Yes, the Suhr's internal load boosts the bass and scoops the mids way too much. But when I connect a V30 or MC-90 to the Thru, the line out into my IRs of my speakers sounds great, and very close to the sound of the mic'd speakers. But that defeats the purpose of silent recording. But the...

Clear, Non-muddy NECK HB for Blues to Hard Rock: Go

All the passive neck hbs I've had were muddy to me. EMG 60X and 66 are the only neck hbs that aren't muddy in my LP. Anotger EMG offering that really helps a woofy pickup is the VMC (variable mid control) active EQ concentric pot. 100Hz-1kHz and boost/cut. Cutting ~180-250Hz really clears the...

Favorite combo amp for live rock music?

Mesa/Boogie Mark V or Mark VII, but I don't know if they have 2x12's of them. A more affordable 2x12 combo would be the Carvin V3. 3 channels, similar feature set to the Mark series, but it doesn't have the same sound. I have the head versions of the Mark V and V3, and while the Mark V is...

    Best Boost Pedal

Friedman Buxom Boost. Mid & bass boosts, treble boost/cut, toggle switch to bypass the EQ. The best part is the Tight knob. Lots of clean gain. 9-18V for more headroom. Can also be used as an underdrive because the gain goes below unity. I use it a lot for clean tones, I do a lot of clean...

    Revv amps?

Do you mean with the XLR output and TwoNotes cab sims it sounds like a plugin? Or thru a real cab? I have the G20 and I'm not impressed with the TwoNotes stuff in it. I've also had a free version of their Wall of Sound plugin for a year or so with 14 IRs and I thought that was absolute trash...

    Revv amps?

I've had a few Marshalls and two Peaveys (all imports), and played a couple Mesas in-store. The Revv G20 sounds nothing like any of them. It has so much more low end and depth, clarity and note definition without excessive fizz or excessive mids. The Marshalls, Peaveys and Mesas all have...

    Revv amps?

Wow, sounds like I'm the only one that really likes my Revv amp. Yeah, I wouldn't have paid the $1350 price for new on the G20, but for $700 used, it's 10x better than other tube amps that cost me $600-900.

    Revv amps?

I just got a G20. Used for $700. I wouldn't pay the price for new. I think it's great. The gain is a bit dark and bassy but a Precision Drive in front really helps that out. I also run a 10 band parametric EQ in the loop. Haven't met a small amp that didn't desperately need it. But with the...
