I'd pass on the SR and aim for the DRG. Have it serviced & III+ modded by Mike B. and you're as close as you're going to get to a C+.
$2500 is in the ballpark if it's clean, high if it's not.
"Best" is such a weird word and so day-to-day subjective. So, here are the three most IMPACTFUL amps I've had, in that after playing them at volume for the first time you're just completely blown away, taken aback & speechless about what just happened..?!?!
1- Mark IIB Coliseum
2- SLO 100
3-...
Ha! My kiddo is currently in the air, landing in Reykjavik in about 3 hours. :)
....and c'mon Lisa, if you can dig up where I work you can dig up a better picture than that!!
IMO it depends if you're talking about string tension vs string deflection.
Tension is defined by the pull between the tuner & the ball end. Think of it as an axial load. Length vs pitch matters here. Clamping a locking nut down isn't going to have any effect on this, similar to fretting the...

The guitar came out amazing, super stoked or whoever is gifted it. Sorry I couldn't make the PUP polls! Spent the last 10 days chasing waves in Nicaragua...
Pretty sure the Blue Album was a Mark I Super 60 into a greenback cab.
El Jefe did use a MkIII back in the day. Fletcher from Pennywise had some Mark IV action as well.
Neal Schon used a IIC+.
Izzy Stradlin used a MkIII.
Tighten used a IIC+. :p
Correct on all* points. I had the 6th to last III made, a SRG, and it was from 1999.
*Between the Blues & the Green there was a preamp board change, CP1G to CP1H. I don't know the difference though.
The blues are the most common III. For a short head in good condition I'd say around $2200.
FWIW, I've shown up at gigs where for whatever reason my Mark II was humming like a motherfucker, and after a very helpful FOH guy loaned me one of these Morley Hum Exterminators, I got one & would now never go to a show without it. Problem solved.
If you guys want to put this to bed send me your cables or whatever & I'll A/B reamp test them & post it up. Otherwise it's gonna be "team subjective" vs "team objective" for the next 10 pages.
I've wondered the same thing. I'd like to get one for my vintage Marks but I'm hesitant to by a cheapo I know nothing about for $$$ amps. Anyone have solid recommendations?
One thing I've noticed on stage is that light colors and high contrast pop best. Darker colors, even if they're vivid, go flat in stage lighting. One time I giggged my ESP KH2 purple sparkle expecting it to blow up in the stage lights, and in reality it was flat as hell...
That said, the...
