You probably know about the 'chewy' thing. That 69 Twin I had, when cranked had some of that chewy thing...and, a particularly killer 66 Bassman had even more of it when loud/boosted. Definitely more of a 'vintage' amp thing apart from the Bogners.
I’ve had a modded Marshall from all the big names except Jose A, Morin(had a preamp) and Langner(46-2 is finishing up on a Langner type mod on my 72 100).
I can easily say the Snorkler is the best 50w modded Marshall I’ve owned or played. Everything is all there. Feel, clarity, great mids, tight...
From 1978-1983 you could find them in Marshall cabs. In 1983 they phased the 65 out, and started putting in the dreaded M70. And they sound like chapped ass.
When you find an 800 cab, with the input at the bottom, and the tag says 260w you still better open it up to know for sure if there are 65s…
For me, my 80s Marshall Vintage cabs are my fav. Second being G12 65s with vintage GBs just behind. Vented T75s are up there too. The Marshall vintages from the 80s sound like a 65 but with V30 low end response, which to me is tighter than 65s.
I have an 87, and 89 m vintage cabs, an EVH cab...
It’s around 550 unloaded; 120v. I use a variac however and set it to 105-110. Just to be safe…so many of these have replaced PTs, imo due to US voltage being 120-125 and the pt wants to see 110.
A late 70s Dagnall 4145 came with it after I bought it; got lucky and found a period correct T3556...
The Greco LPs from 79-83 or so could come with the fabled Dry Z which are PAF clones; and can go for 1K per pickup IF you can find one. By 1983 they started using the Dry 82s in the higher end Grecos. The lower end pickups were called Screamin 82s If I remember right. Before that, they were made...
I fire an amp up every day; even when I don't feel like playing I usually do even for a little bit. It takes longer for me to warm up, and I've got some slight arthritis in my hands but once I do warm up it flows pretty well.
I've found that, if I don't play for a few days it really affects my...
Nice!
I've seen Pretty Reckless a few times. I believe he used MCIIs ten years ago when I last saw them. The same show, later on Aerosmith headlined and Joe Perry had literally 10 different boutique amps on stage....
It really is a step up from pedals. Worth it even if you just use it at home. As cheap as they are, when you add up the best sounding pedals they'll be double the price of the MPX1 in the end.
I also had one with Norum written on the inside. It wasn't gooped/painted over values; white head shell and sounded spot on to the Aldrich I had next. Supposedly was done way back in 1993.
I think they sound great. For 200$, or whatever they go for they are a bargain IMO. I had a PCM 81, which is killer but A/Bing the MPX1 and PCM, yes the PCM is better but not 800$ or more better. The MPX1 is better than the Intellifex, and any/all pedals you want to compare to. IMO.
Right now I...
I had one, and sent it to Nick K for his Aldrich style mod. The amp is more of a Plexi clone from what I remember. But, the challenge was that they use a different set of preamp tubes, not 12ax7s. So it became a difficult process if I remember right.
Congrats!!
I too am a recent Snorkler purchaser...to me, it's the best 50w modded Marshall I've owned. I don't hear anything in the amp that isn't Marshall...the chewy-ness is similar to my 68 SuperTrem, feel is as good as anything short of a C+. Great clarity, and by engaging the loop vol you...
This.
With original transformers, HS/Chassis it's definitely worth something, but not legit Marshall value. 1K...maybe....then I'd consider sending it out for a mod since it's now a great mod platform with the PTP wiring.
But, it may be an amazeballs sounding amp the way it is...and with a...
