Sounds pretty good on the MESA Mark series rhythm tone if not taken to the extreme, otherwise it just kills the actual tone of the individual guitar. For leads I think that it really does suck even more life out of it. Many YouTube video evidence says it all.
I have the Duncan Custom that I tried the A2,A5,and A8 magnets in. I ended up going with the A2, because my 1973 pancake Les Paul goldtop was a bit on the bright side. Every Les Paul will like different things, so make it your own.
I have liked the EV for a long time because it is very true to the sound of your guitar, BUT you have to set said guitar AND amp up for the EV's. That includes electronics in the guitar, and preamp tubes and the 6L6/6CA7 combo in the MESA 2C+. The EV does not like a dive bomb on the 750 Hz EQ...
I played a Red Stripe III that was SO close in tone to my DRG C+ amps. It just did not have quite the dynamics without the 105 PT. I can see why some folks think the III is just as good, until you play them in an A/B situation.
