Right.
I can't. I'm saying I'd rather focus on other things that I can control. I've used and continue to use both ARS and F&T with equally good results.
Nice playing! Sounds great.
I had one of these for a bit and it sounded pretty good but it was just too complicated for me to dial in. I wound up constantly playing with the knobs and switches instead of playing guitar.
I'm simply saying I prefer to be able to intentionally tune something rather than relying on chance/luck. I'm using the hot shield as an example to make my point.
Sure. I understand.
But isn't it a bit like using a "hot shield" method on a grid wire? Can you do that to create a low-pass filter in conjunction with the tube's Miller capacitance? Yes. But you have no way of intentionally tuning the cut-off. I'd rather use an actual capacitor, whose value I...
Even if old filter caps measure fine in-circuit, in terms of capacitance, it doesn't mean they're good. And it's hard to know if any amp actually sounds its best without replacing them. I've done five filter cap jobs on vintage Marshalls in the last month and each and every one of them sounded...
I'm talking mostly about used prices. People asking crazy prices for a modern, used 4x12. If you tried to sell a quad of used V30s, you'd get what... $100/speaker? The wood box by itself isn't worth $1,200, let alone $3,000.
Looks clean. Yeah, it's had some mods in the past just based on the extra holes. I wouldn't worry about the bright cap. And yes, extra resistor on V1. No biggie. As long as the iron's original I'd snag it. What Dan means to say is it most likely needs the filter caps replaced.
Why are some companies selling 4x12 cabs for upwards of $2,700? Wizard? Hiwatt? These things are bonkers expensive. And then people trying to sell them used are asking more than a NEW 4x12 from companies like Bogner, Diezel, Fryette, Mesa, etc. It's a wood box and for a rear-loaded 4x12 using...
It's all personal preference really. Most common values are anywhere from 33K - 68K, depending on the treble cap. I would do a 25K or 50K pot, not 100K.
Clips of the 2203. They sound kinda dark on my laptop but great in my car. I don't know how to keep my phone from dropping the mic level automatically when it picks up loud noises. But in person these amps absolutely rip.
