Definitely DO try one out. A lot of people seem to overlook them because of the "ch 1 is useless on hot input". However, you just have to look at the helios as a super 1 channel amp for med to high gain sounds.
Let's get some love for this amazing amp! I see this amp as a 1 channel high gain modded 800 by Reinhold. Just incredible perfect Marshall jose mod tones.
Both sound great! Boosting the MC II pushes it in the same territory clearly. You are making me want to throw my SD-1 in front of my MC II now to boost it. I remember it working really well for that crazy fire breather level metal sound.
I think it holds its own without a boost fairly well...
Hey sorry for the late reply. Although the RC was hooked up, i had it on bypass to bypass attenuation. I just used the fx loop return master to let me get a bit of channel master volume in 11 o clock range without blasting the walls off. So fx loop trick i guess ? lol
If you look at my...
I have no experience with 6L6 Wizards, but will chime in on the differences in tones with contour based from my original vid post.
The Maxed out contour makes it brighter, more punchy and raw, but I found it was not as compressed as with contour at like 6 to 8 area. I actually prefer the...
So I made a little vid trying to demonstrate what it sounds like when you 'dime' the contour knob on the MC II, which takes the negative feedback upper mid shelving OUT of the circuit and makes it like the MC I "brighter/more raw", very minimal diff in sound but noticeable in person nonetheless...
Just wanted to share, contour knob being max'd and taken out of circuit vs at 3 o 'clock through vid. Easier to try and make a vid to show differences in sound versus explain it.
Yeah def give it a shot.
As far as MC II settings: I tend to have the mids around 5 to 6 and treble 6 to 7 with brightness at like 6 to 7 depending on my mood. Contour around 6. Gain is up 7 to 8 though as I like aggressive stuff. I do kinda wish the MC II had a Sat knob but then that...
Yeah man, it is interesting indeed, I had a MTL before yrs ago but this time around I really gave it a chance understanding the eq and how it shapes. I couldn't believe it when experimenting, once that mid knob was up at 6 or 7 it went from mild scooped sound to more aggressive mids. I don't...
Thanks, and yes, I really really gave time to what each knob does and its affect to frequencies before tweaking. So the Mid knob REALLY changes drastically in its Q band it seems from 11am to Noon, goes from mid scoopy to broadened flat line, then anywhere from Noon to 1pm starts to notch some...
Reunited with the great beast of an amp, I used to own one of these years ago and sold it, then found another one used and remember now why it was a mistake to sell in the first place lol
The silly things we do!
Just to clarify, do you mean the ''11'' eq switch? That takes the preamp out of the amp and is straight raw tones? I am assuming this is what you mean, but yes it is VERY raw as it is let alone engaging that switch for sure. Very cool to even have that option.
