I know you remember back in the days of HRI. It was a great place to learn about wiring, and how one affects the other..etc. You're absolutely right about projecting one single tone to the audience night after night. But can you imagine if everything available today was available back then? Too...
I completely agree with this. Its nuts to spend 95 percent of a rig budget on something that will only give you a 10 percent return on tone. Remember Rockstah? He made that little kidney bean Pod sound unreal!! Mike Slamer used a stock Boogie on just about everything and he was always about that...
I started my journey working with Mesa, doing 2 albums and touring coast to coast. I had Mark Snyder build a lot of my first rig. That was a million years ago starting in 1992 and was short lived, but that had ZERO effect on a good enough rig. If you tour seriously... you most likely have a road...
Start the fire and flames but from what I see from WAY TOO MANY guys are the attitude of "it sounds good enough" . What the fuck is that?? "Well, its easier to carry...cheaper..blah blah"... Fuck all that. I dont ever remember any of the guys I knew who were building their rig, whether it was a...
There are a few key people to put her in touch with IF she even wants to go that route. Again, first and foremost its about a guy who dedicated his life to this and was pretty private in all things. Being a one man show is tough and it might have even been his wish to let it rest with him. I...
I have Kens Niece's contact info and am going to reach out to her between now and the New Year. From what I understand he really was a one man show so hopefully I can get some information if the family has any plans for the S.S. brand or even perhaps sell off any inventory that is there or...
I have 3 81-85 sets that are still in use from 1991 that sound better than any of the newer 81-85s i have played. Bought a newer 81-85 set a few years back that were pretty weak in comparison.
Jim,
For a while Gibson also made the Supreme with the F holes as well. They usually have really nice tops on most of them but I am not sure what they go for currently. Just kinda throwing out other options for price comparison. Your Green LP in that pic is a beauty! Good luck.
Hey now!!! Having a Soldano pre with a Boogie power section kicked ass!! LOL I know I've told ya before that I was fortune enough to have my pick of about 15 Rectos, all under under serial #500. There was no talk of Revs. It was just what sounded the best. I happened to pick #31 which...
Yea, they are heavy as shit. I used to use old Ampeg v4 cabs that I loaded with Altecs. Even though those cabs were smaller than the Boogies they probably weighed the same if not heavier.
If you ever do come across another diamond plate cab and its the right price, you can always remove it...
I still have both my Mesa Recto cabs from back when I worked with Mesa. They both have diamond plate on them and the top is actually a proto type. This was around mid 92 I think? Always was curious what they would go for on the used market. From what I ever come across, there arent many diamond...
Dont take that literally. Paul has actually told me personally over the years different things. LOL Hes a nice guy but I am not sure he was just shilling his guitars or what? He was doing cigar box and Resonator guitars last I spoke with him, and that was years ago.
I dont care what the guitar sounds like but Tim has done more recordings that most of this forum put together... LOL When you have someone, even guys on this forum, who have played a zillion guitars and amps, effects..etc. and can pick up something that blows them away and inspires them to play...
His dad is a legend ...but he does his own thing, and for what it is its not bad. I think its awesome hes making a name for himself without riding dads coat tails! He can rip and I'd bet if he put out some VH covers, like for reals, it would so close to Ed it would be scary. Just cause hes Eds...
I've been using Teese Wahs for like the past 20 years and they are a good, well made, solid pedal. I use the Picture Wah these days and its the closest to my buddys oriignal. He's also great to work with if you have questions or want to do mods...etc. This is all based on the likes of Hendrix'...
