I am in the minority, but I preferred my Rev Blue to my Rev2. It is a "tamer" amp, but still classic Uberschall, wall of sound tone IMO. Definitely is a great lead amp and the interplay between the presence and mid controls is massive. Similar feel to my Ecstasy Red channel, but way more gain...
Really great video review, well done! I REALLY need to play a VII in the near future here.
The Crunch mode on my old MKV was my favorite/most played mode on that amp. I asked a Boogie rep what it was based on and was told the Crunch was,"Inspired by the vintage high gain mode on our...
I had a MkV for a good while. It is certainly a very versatile amp: great cleans, the best rhythm 2 channel to date, rectifier tube option and power scaling.
It was an amp I really dug for at home playing and some of the little riff recording I did with it, absolutely sounded authentic Mark...
Ya I picked one up in 2001 for $300 Canadian. Glad it was cheap, as it didn't impress me. My friends Triaxis, as well as the mkiv I got later, smoked it.
Oh I know man....and I wasn't throwing shade at all! :)
While I do not have your exceedingly descriptive vocabulary when talking about amps strong/weak points, I most certainly agree with alot of what you like and dislike overall.
Like with modern amps, I think they distil and filter so much...
It is a cool concept, no doubt. But it is absolutely a "jack of all trades, master of none" type of deal.
If you want a ton of different Diezel flavors, including some that are exclusive (ex. Modern setting), you may dig it!
However, most guys....especially the gear nuts on a board like this...
You mean saturated? Well, when you set "shape 1, classic" which I was told was Herbert (shape 0 = VH4 = tightest; shape 2 = Hagen = loosest....all classic setting), it can definitely get more saturated in the red channel, or highest gain channel.
That said, all the high gain Diezels have a...
My answer from having both a 2022 VHX and mkiii Herbert at the same time is "kinda".
It can do a pretty good job of copping the overall vibe (response, feel and tonality) of a Herbert. But the Herbert will really outshine the VHX in 2 places: 1. At volume and 2. Using downtunings. In both...
Not a bad price, if in good condition, plus taking in to account how much PRS's normally are in Australia.
Custom 22's are solid, although I prefer its relative, the McCarty. The 2008 model would also have Dragon 2 pickups in it, which are 12k ish A4 mag pickups.
PRS's from that era are built...
Well said!
I would ask, how much does the feel of the Fryette matter to you? Fryette amps do have a particular feel and response and if you really love that, you will 100% miss it if you sell (I know I did years ago when I sold my first pittbull ultra lead).
I have had a love/hate relationship with the Diezel stuff over the years. They have a very unique tonal signature and feel. Unique enough I often miss it when I don't have a Diezel, but when I have had one, they have never been my "go to" amp.
If I were grabbing one today, it would be a new...
I think you did a really great job at describing it! Modern + good feel + all those well thought out features is a win. Might have to put my name down on one....
Have you tried the 4x12 with other amps? How are you digging that?
Curious about these as well. I have chatted a bit with Joel at Northerner Guitars about them and he loves it! Problem is, they sell immediately when they come in, so tough to get a chance to sit down with one.
Agree with all of this! You can easily dial in tones on either mkiv version that are great combination of punch, dynamics, clarity and saturation/ compression. That is one of the great things about the mkiv, you can really find that sweet spot!
Ya, compared to the mkiii range they are little...
100% agree!! And I would even argue, that while all the older Marks I have played (my mkiv, mkiii's) all have sole semblance of that and feel good to play....playing a real deal 2C+ is different. So it is even kind of unique among the Mark series.
I have only played an HRG...but it only took...
I had a Helios 100 at the same time as my Ecstasy 101b. Ended up keeping the Ecstasy.
I pretty well stuck to 70's mode on the Helios and I found that the Ecstasy blue channel, dialed proper could get me close enough. That 5-10% difference I found was the Ecstasy always had a bit more chew/give...
