I have a Mesa Tremoverb, Mark IV, Bogner 101A, Mezzabarba Trinity and the Alta. The Alta has the most Marshall DNA out of all of my amps. It can absolutely do tight thrash stuff and looser AiC or Tool tones. It's super versatile and matches the Bogner or the Mark IV in terms of versatility. I...
Highly recommend the Alta for modded Marshall and classic tones. Lots of flexibility and 3 channels. The other two amps stray pretty far from the standard Marshall sound.
The tightness or lack thereof depends a lot on the guitar, pickups, string gauge, where you pick the strings, and cab/speakers. Also I’d bet each person has a different definition of what “tight” is, so there’s that too.
Not less fizz, but more defined frequencies in the 2k-4k range that add a bit more cut.
I don’t know if I’ll end up modding the amp or not. Once it gets some volume it sounds great. And a boost pedal seems to be the easiest fix to get that added aggression when needed.
Why don’t you guys stop posting his vids? These threads are always full of people whining about him. Do yourself a favor and stop watching or sharing his content. That’s what he wants.
I don’t think anyone is ragging on him. It’s just enough people have played his amps now to form an opinion on them. Dave is an awesome builder and his customer service is exceptional.

A lot of people talk up the older models with mercury magnetics transformers, but I was told direct from Jorg at Bogner that they only used MM power transformers for a bit before moving production to in-house:
