Albeit I haven´t tried the latest and greatest attenuators, but in my experience an attenuator works great for going from super loud to still pretty damn loud and everything beyond that is debatable.
I would much rather use a load and either IRs or another power section depending on if you...
I have 8-38 in standard tuning on one 25.5" guitar and it definitely works. I originally tried it as a last ditch effort to help the truss rod get in a better range for adjustments, but once you´ve jacked up the bridge a bit to allow for the bigger excursion and make it feel less like playing...
Well, I guess it begs the question if there ever was any hype to begin with or just marketing. Because the marketing is probably moving on to the next thing already, the limited IIC++ heads.
Yeah, I´ve heard some good clips of this but the price point is an issue. A bit more than 1,5X the price of the handwired for some diodes and a master volume is a stretch.
Yeah, I guess EVH has always been the main angle there and that´s what he´s known for, and this one is built to those specs too. Not sure what exactly that is relative to a stock ´68, but I suppose all the builders have their own proprietary flavor of values and voltages even when the circuit is...
Hi guys, I've known of Bray for a long while and considered buying one of his Coco models, but being in the EU is a bit of a hassle when it comes to buying American stuff. Anyhoo, this export model turned up down in the Netherlands and I decided to jump on it. Rare stuff on this side of the...
I´m not against mods, but there is something very special about a stock 2203/2204 too and nothing sounds quite like it, for better or worse. My ´85 2204 is stock other than a PPIMV, which to me is the best mod these can get along with the hardwire bypass FX loop if you need it.
There is a José connection with Norum as well, there´s this great story from a swedish magazine where his old buddy Andy Laroqcue calls up John and asks if he wants to tag along with Andy and José over to 5150 and see what Eddie thinks about the newest mod. I think this is late 80s.
When setting them up roughly the same as passive pickups they´re not excessively hot and pretty easy to work with. I think EMG really shot themselves in the foot by insisting that you should have them almost touching the strings for all those years, if you ask them today they tell you to start...
While I´m glad that Jackson seems to be thriving, they´re almost approaching ESP level of brand confusion with these high-end and high-mid lines. A couple of years ago it seemed like they launched the MIJ and the more affordable American standard models with basically the same specs and pricing...
That woosh is more or less a common plexi thing once you crank it high enough, I think it has to do with the power filtering and I have had two 50-watters that had it big-time once you get it up to those levels. Google "Marshall plexi swirl" and see if it feels familiar. I´m thinking you maybe...
I think Luke may have used EMGs as early as the late 70s, those first EMG "Overlend" models with the huge logo. He had them in the Robot when it was still sunburst, so at least very early 80s. But apart from the weeks or months he used his Ibanez model and a small detour into Anderson pickups in...
Probably my main influence, all things considered. Apart from all the obvious highlights with Toto and the sessions I want to mention his first solo album. It´s a bit hard to find these days, but every lead just explodes off the strings. A little heavier and more guitar driven than the late 80s...
I don´t think I ever tried the CL80/Classic Lead 80 in real life, but it is one of the IR models in my Blubox and I think it´s pretty cool judging from that. I mostly go for greenbacks these days but I like that IR with my Mark III+, more so than with the typical Marshall-ish stuff.
Yeah, the Blubox has maybe six or seven Celestion models - along with some other odds and ends I haven´t messed with - and a filter sweep as a sort of simple position control. Seems to be captured with care and in a sound style I like so it´s good enough for me, I´ll do the rest with EQ if needed.
I only went over to IRs maybe two years ago, so pretty late to the party. I was afraid to end up with option paralysis and always end up chasing some "better" IRs in the vast jungle of packs out there, so I stuck with analog speaker emulation for a long while. Even after I knew that IRs were a...
