Why Wood Matters | Rules of Tone: Episode 1 | PRS Guitars

I have two identical Anderson Cobras. One is hollow and one is solid. Same pickups etc. They sound quite different. The solid has more lows and highs. The Hollow has more midrange and a softer attack. When I play more metal/rock stuff I use the solid. My fusiony /classic rock the hollow.

Why Wood Matters | Rules of Tone: Episode 1 | PRS Guitars

You read too many books about things without any experience is my observation. Prove me wrong….

Purchased the 78/79 package from IK multimedia, UPDATE 7/4/25

Finally it is working! Somehow Logic’s Permissions to access the document folder was set to not let it. I have to say the captures of my Wizard and 67 Supertremolo 100 sound pretty much right on. See if it translates to the pedal and power amp/ cab.

I don’t see any way to download any skins in the plug in. I tried the restore button, just opened the product manager. I haven’t purchased any collections. This software just makes no sense to me.

They are not yet. Tonex will open, then gives me some popup about new skins available, then another popup can’t connect to Tone net, then another that says something about a gui. Gonna do some more digging. No presets or tone models in Tonex. A few models in Ampitube but just some factory...

Purchased the 78/79 package from IK multimedia, UPDATE 7/4/25

Upgraded my OSX to 15.5 from 13.7 last nite. I noticed my version of Logic was 11.0 and they are up to 11.2 now. 13.7 would only run up to 11.0. Now Logic is updated to current 11.2. The Tonex AU’s finally passed validation and will open as a plug in as Amplitube. Models and presets are...

Why Wood Matters | Rules of Tone: Episode 1 | PRS Guitars

If you watch the video here, Paul seems to be pretty specific in the woods, cuts, drying etc to get repeatable / consistent pieces to work with. Anderson ( my preference) is the same. No quality maker is going to use every piece of wood from a tree, just what passes their tests. In these...

So my Tonex and Amplitube work fine in Garageband. Been working with IK this week. Hope to get it resolved soon.

Why Wood Matters | Rules of Tone: Episode 1 | PRS Guitars

Tree rings as in? Old growth vs new growth is that what you are getting at? If that is what you are getting at, old growth stuff sounds better to me sometimes. For an example, I have a 1955 Les Paul Special. It has been played all it’s life, not a case queen. Buddy has a new Les Paul...

Why Wood Matters | Rules of Tone: Episode 1 | PRS Guitars

Pick up and strum a Martin D18 and a D28. If you can’t hear a difference you are lucky. To think that different types of woods don’t affect electric guitar’s sounds….baffling.

    Well --- I played my JCM 800 . Enough said LOL !

Glad you found something you like. 15 seconds is about enough time for me to turn one off. 😄 Those 800’s I never got along with. Have a 78 2203 I picked up, changed up alot of grounding etc. its better, my plexis are still my preference with Marshalls. Even back in the day when I modded...

Yes, just have to be able to turn off the cab model first. Create your sound in the computer software, then drag it into the pedal and turn off the cab model.

I rarely have any issues with mac and recording / video stuff. But when I do it is something like this. It may be a logic / M1 thing. Appreciate all the help. Will do some more looking around.

    Holdsworth’s final years

Zappa took me a long time to get as well. Love it now.

    Holdsworth’s final years

This guy is good. He plays very diatonically / ordinary on this. Not a bad thing, just is what it is, playing over one chord. Basic rock / shred vocabulary, not a bad thing just an observation.

    Holdsworth’s final years

Jazz and fusion are like any other styles, like it or you don’t. There are styles I don’t care for. For a basic rock player with a rock vocabulary, jazz stuff can sound terrible. Another example I can think of is going to GIT. The opening concert was Tribal Tech with Scott Henderson. They...

Purchased the 78/79 package from IK multimedia, UPDATE 7/4/25

Opening Amplitube on it’s own, my models are showing up. When opening it up inside Logic, nothing but a couple factory models and a bunch of locked for purcahase ones. Clicking the Tonex button there is nothing at all in it. Only thing I have figured out is to load model into pedal, plug...

Purchased the 78/79 package from IK multimedia, UPDATE 7/4/25

Thanks, Yes that looks like it. I tried importing it into amplitube and no dice. Sucks having to load the capture in the pedal and then playing thru it to record. Would be great to be able to use it as a plug in. I emailed IK today, see if they have any info.
