Honestly, all 3 pickup sets you already have should be able to pull off classic rock/hard rock pretty well, even the EMGs. But if you change those out, the Custom 5 or Custom Hybrid are good options.
If anything, on the LP Special, you'll probably get some high end cut back and make it less...
For strat shapes, like Fenders and Charvels, I prefer with pickguard. For sharper superstrat shapes, like RGs or Dinkys, I could go either way. Just my opinion.

Ever record yourself playing, and notice a lot of subtleties when you listen back that you didn't notice while playing? Same thing, you don't listen as well while you're actively playing, because your attention is divided. This also has to do with why some people think they're better players...
How about an LTD H-302, with Seymour Duncan Alpha/Omega pickups ($250 upgrade)? Actually plays and sounds pretty good. $370 shipped. Or, $250 shipped with a JB/59 pickup set (zebra, and rusted poles, but work fine and sound good too). Hard to beat the bang for buck here...
