    Anyone else find modelers/sims uninspiring?

I have been finding modelers to have that smooth feel to them that makes leads easier, but have also been finding captures to have more of that immediate punchy feel more like an amp for rhythms.

    Anyone else find modelers/sims uninspiring?

Use ToneX and take a capture of your actual tube amps. Best I have found.

Should I ditch my half stack and go digital?

I have read about those, but it seems like they dont really load NAM. They re-encode it into their own format which loses some quality. You also cant load a separate IR from the amp capture, so you are limited to captures with baked in cabs.

Should I ditch my half stack and go digital?

I have been thinking about the same thing. I hated playing through the computer for years but have made some real progress this year with ToneX, and NAM. These newer capture softwares are on another level. I have been using Fractal for years, but always preferred it into a poweramp and cab...

    Another partscaster build

I have seen people say this, but I just dont get it, lol. My guitars with reverse headstocks and no locking nuts are easily the bendiest. That extra 8" or so of string behind the nut just makes it so less stiff feeling.

    NSD - Eminence Karnivores!!

Sounds great to me! Very aggressive, but I dont hear the annoying fizzy thing Celestions have. I have been kind of waiting for these. I got a pair of Swamp Thangs I like, but couldn't decide if I wanted more, something different like the DV-77, or wait for these.

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Yeah, even RJM makes the Mini Effects Gizmo to deal with the switching. Back in the big 80's racks, usually there was some sort of MIDI switcher that went to the inputs of the effects units. Those all came out and went into a line mixer to mix it all back to stereo before the poweramp. The...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Yeah, it gives you a direct analog signal through the amp and the digital effects are only mixed on top of that. Your signal is never 100% digitized. This is far more transparent and dynamic. You also don't get digital conversion latency. Pedals with analog dry through are basically doing the...

    Another partscaster build

I know for me, I find guitars with locking nuts always feel stiffer than those without them. That would be one reason for me to use a non-locking trem. They usually play better in terms of a flexible feel.

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Generally with parallel mixers you control the mix with the output level of your effects unit. Run mix at 100% and control the amount of effect with the output level.

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Yeah, I have always loved rack stuff. I still have the Axe II, MPX-1, G Major 2, PEQ2200, Intellifex, Replifex and a Synergy rack. I have a few poweramps and a Samson SM-10 rack line mixer to run all the effects in parallel. However, having pedals like the SDE-3000D and 2290p, I can appreciate...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

With a parallel line level mixer you can keep your signal analog and just mix in some of the digital tone on top of it. Way more transparent. The downside is the complexity, and you can't use effects that require 100% signal like gate, eq, and tremolo. It is great for modulation, delay, and...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Yeah, that seems to be the number 1 choice if I were to go that route. I just wish it were smaller and simpler. I was thinking about a RJM Micro Line Mixer, which would work awesome, but then I realized without a way to shut off the loops I would have level issues using the normal bypass...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Another option is you could get a parallel mixer and run the FM3 in parallel. This would keep your signal analog so that it doesn't change the tone. This is how I run my Axe II and FM3 when I use them with my tube amps because I dont like running straight through them because they change the...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

I was on my phone earlier, so I will say more. I do think features is by far more the most important consideration. Tap, Modulation, etc.... and then I think type of delay is second. Do you want clear repeats, or something that gets darker and grungy? For example, I recently built some BBD...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

Man.... lol. I have been using my pedals more lately because my Fractals have been annoying me with their feel lately. However, I highly prefer my delay and reverb to be in parallel, and really prefer my mod in parallel with those, but I am OK if its not. Trying to set everything up like that is...

Recommend a Delay and Reverb pedal for 80s metal

With delay I think defining what features you want is the most important. Do you want presets or tap tempo, or modulation, or ? For a simple cheap option I like the TC Flashback II. Lots of variety and analog dry through. You really want analog dry through to preserve your amp tone.

    Synergy incoming!

Yeah, the Powerball is probably one of my least used modules, but I think I just jive more with more forgiving feeling preamps. I do like the Powerball for a tight Fear Factory type sound. It is also one of the few modules that can do a true clean and high gain on the 2 channels. The Uber is...

    Synergy incoming!

BE-DLX is like a less aggressive Killer Kali. When the gain is maxed, I like it for clean 90s metal, like a Youthanasia sound.

    Synergy incoming!

I keep the EQ switch down in the least mids mode and keep the mids knob about 9 o'clock, so it is very scooped and similar to the 6505 like that. Yeah, I don't like the mids switch in the upper position at all.
