Haha yes, I definitely hear my basement windows rattle when I slave my Mesa mark amps through the 500.
I love the transparency it has when using the slave out of the amps. Especially the C++ DRG. Since the slave out takes the whole amp you’ll still have the SimulClass characteristics, but with...
I picked up a Strategy 500 a few weeks ago. I think they are pretty similar. Both are 2x200W. But the 500 have 6550 tubes in four of the sockets where the 400 have 6L6 or EL34. There are also some extra features like half power switches, deep switches and switch tracks. It’s very transparent...
I just picked up a Strategy 500 today and I noticed the same thing. But I have just tried it out for an hour at relatively low volume, slaving my IIC++ DRG. But it does sound glorious with the deep switch engaged! Nice to be able to get that low end thump at low volumes. But then again I can...
Vio-lence- Oppressing the Masses
Forbidden - Twisted into form
Heathen - Victims of deception
Laaz Rockit - Annihilation principle
Don’t know much about the gear, other than I think the Heathen album was recorded with a Mesa Boogie Mark III Blue stripe.
It’s the first version of the Mark III. The first few hundred had the leftover IIC+ transformers, the 105 or as in this case the X101 export transformer.
I had one that had the 105 PT, as well as the + and R2 mods. On paper it should be pretty close to a IIC+. But as with all Mark III’s it was...
Interesting, thanks for the input! ?? The ideal would be to find a used 90’s BV cab, but the used market on cabs aren’t too happening in Sweden. Luckily new Marshall cabs aren’t too expensive in Europe.
I borrowed a friend’s Marshall 1960AV from early 90’s and it sounds really really good. How does the new production ones compare to the early 90’s ones?
I have a JCM 800 1960A cab from ‘84 with the first version of the G12T-75 with the vented magnet. They sound way better and different to the...
That seems to be the most common misunderstanding of the Puppets tone. But Flemming Rasmussen dismissed this years ago. It was only on some solos the Marshall was used as power section.
And in Flemmings notes from the MoP sessions it’s noted 300W cabs, which would be 75’s.
Yes, the power section is so different to the other two, so some tweaking would be necessary to get the best out of it. But the point of this test was to use the same settings.
Thanks for your opinions guys!
I obviously love them all.
I feel that the HRG is dryer, rawer, has more mids. The simuls sounds fuller and fills the room better. With more “hair” around the notes, and to me sounds better for Metallica style riffing.
And yes, the KDRG is just something special...
So I did a little comparison video of my IIC++ amps. Nothing too serious I just thought it would be fun to compare them using the same settings on all amps. I’m not using the same exact tubes though.
Amps going into Torpedo Captor X with a Marshall 1960BV cab sim. Aphex EQF-2 parametric EQ in...
