I believe that bad/mismatched power tubes will hum, where bad preamp tubes will hiss, so if your amp is humming that may be a sign.

Any objection to buying used? You should be able to find a used MIA in that price range. I've seen them as low as $500 on my local Craigslist.

The Ultra 120+ is a great choice. I got mine used on HCAF for $280 shipped a few years back. Currently, it's my backup when I am gigging. It's good to know I have a nice sounding, reliable head should my DSL go down. Can't go wrong with the Ultra+ (except the footswitch) :thumbsup:

Mounting to a stud won't be a problem and none of my guitars have nitro finishes. Also, I live near Chicago, so earthquakes are something I hopefully don't have to worry about, although we had a very minor one last year or the year before :confused: My main concern is the weight of the guitar...

I haven't had mine for an extended period of time (only about a month and half) but so far so good!

I recently picked up a Tung Sol RI and a Penta Labs 12ax7-M for my Pro Reverb. I am very happy with the Tung Sol. I put it in V1 and I was very impressed. Just sounds "right". The Penta on the other hand was very thin and lifeless. Kinda disappointing, but you never know until you try.

All of them are nice, but this one gives me an erection :inlove:

I had the same experience. I had my LE on Craigslist for a while at $200 (bought it new for $400) and didn't get a single inquiry. I ended up trading it in for $125 :doh:
