I can't imagine the 88's emphasizing the sizzle as much as the pre's would. I'll swap V2 & V3 around a bit and see if that does it. I do have some 6550's around too, so I may check that out as well.

Anyone know what the preamp tube layout is for these? I want to try and dial out some of the top end sizzle with the higher gain settings and would prefer not to do it using trial and error.
Do you notice this mostly in a band setting? I still haven't been able to dial mine in to use with the band. Sounds great as a practice amp by myself though!
I like lower output pickups in the 245. More sounds direct from the guitar. I'd rewire it to "50's wiring and put the SG pickups in there. Try and rethink your amp settings too and don't just go with what you're used to.
Great column! I was just trying to explain this to a friend, you just made it easy as sending a link.
I've also had good results using a Mesa V-twin pedal straight to the interface with the Redwirez IR's. I would imagine it would be just as good as any other preamp, you just don't get any...
Anyone know reliable source that doesn't charge a small fortune? Just looking to replace a Shiva shell and Bogner doesn't sell them separate.
..... Or how tough is it to recover? Mojo seems to be reasonable on materials.
Anyone using EMG's in a guitar for something other than metal? I know they have the rep at excelling at that, but inroad that originally they were designed to be studio use ultra responsive low noise pickups for guys in the seventies.
Seriously thinking a set in just to see how I like them...
Just remember a Singlecut isn't necessarily a SC245. $1,500 is a good price regardless though depending on condition and how it plays. I sold five LP's within three months of getting my first SC245. I had a few of the LP's I had fir more than seven years. They don't sound exactly like a LP but...
They're just aesthetically different and carry a tad higher resale value. No tone difference with a same spec / weight guitar. I had two identically specd SC245's and one had a single piece top. That one found a new home so I cold get a new amp. YMMV.
Dang! Still not sure if I like it or not on my new Shiva. I got the swirly tolex with the salt and pepper cloth and it just doesn't seem as cool as the black and wheat. Maybe I should scoop up a headshell before they discontinue them all together.
Probably more of a business model issue than a kit issue. I saw lots of things mentioned on that board that suggested they had a hard time running the supply and purchasing side. That will screw up any business. Lots of people doing a similar thing in other hobby industries that are pretty...
I just see a huge potential in kit amplifiers. It's a great way for younger guys to learn about buildin and modding tube amps. Look at the average age of an amp tech/designer/builder etc. They're typically in their 40's and 50's. In comparison to boutique pedals, I'd say new amp features and...
