I'd be curious to hear how they behave in the mix. The decimators are annoying bright alone, but in a band they cut really well, which a complain people have about the Pegasus
That's basically the problem I've found with most Blackstar production, especially HT series. Artisan amps were good, but the HT - curious enough their most popular line - always sounded quite flat in the upper range, and compressed.
Not avaiable in Europe I fear
I guess it depends on the amp as well, it never met my preferences. I'm not obsessed with tightness or aggression, but always sounded flubby. I tried tweaking the height and the screw poles as well, but worked very marginally (opposite as many others pickups I've...
I find the JB particularly picky with guitars honestly. I had one (not JBJ) and put it in some of my guitars, but didn't shine in most of them (one being a Schecter Traditional, which came out of the factory with that pickup). I found it mushy, confused, not focused enough (and I'm far from...
This sounds very interesting! Does it cut well? Is it somehow similar to the Air Norton?
The JB's not exactly a pickup I dig, those I had always sounded muddy and somehow darker than they supposed to (500k pots), and I don't use gobs of gain or dropped tunings.
I actually play E standard...
Thanks. I'm aware that there are lethal voltages there, but honestly had no idea where those where located. I guess I'll go with the alligator clips, sounds like a safe and fast way. Not sure when I'll have time to do it, but I'll let ya know how things go. Will this also make the amp more...
I'm an absolutely amateur/dumb when it comes to electrics, resistor values and stuff like that, I swap pickups basically following schematics. With that said, more mids are always welcome, as long as the amp does not lose treble and presence, which is something I want in my sound (many are...
The whole DiMarzio thing is sort of a mystery for me, I'm watching a shitload of vids and comparison clips (with duncans too) and they all sound quite good, I guess my ears are gettin oversaturated somehow.
I don't mind some scoop in the lower mids, might help a lil keeping the low end...
I do have the original EMGs the guitar came with, but it didn't shine with them... or maybe I wasn't a fan of the lack of dynamics at the time. Funny enough EMGs are still strong and you see plenty of pros using them no matter how unpopular are in forums. Gotta give em another chance someday...
First of all thanks for your replies guys! Now:
The Custom SH-5 is something that has always been tempting me, it's also quite popular so not hard to find. I've never played one tho, just listened to some clips and read some reviews, where for some reason it's both described as mid...
Hello guys, I need some advice for a pickup swap, and while I'm absolutely terrible at describing sounds, I'll try my best.
I'm currently playing as rhytm guitar in a power-heavy metal band, using a Schecter Hellraiser thru a Ceriatone Yeti into a V30 loaded Laney 2x12 (very deep cab btw)
I dig...
Mmm ok that their amps do have small iron, can't argue with that, but what do you think they are lacking practically? IME there are sort of 3 factors that do define how much you shine or get buried when comparing guitar amps (and band mix in general): the amp EQ (natural EQ curve, and how do you...
