Popped into a local shop earlier to buy a patch cable and left with a patch cable and a brand-new-in-box Klon KTR. At least I didn’t walk out with the Gil Yaron LP hanging on the wall…..
Played it through my MCII build this afternoon. I’d wanted to try a Klon-style pedal with it, as the OD808X...
It would be great if you could give us a little something @Techdeth. I think we all appreciate that capturing how the amp sounds in the flesh is really hard and how it feels basically impossible, but it would be great to hear a little something - there’s so little out there on Larry amps and...
Given all the stock market volatility, investing in commodities such as gold, silver, diamonds and Larry amps seems like a good bet @Techdeth. Given the time it takes to extract a Larry, it may be the most valuable of the lot! Maybe it’s time to create a derivatives/futures trading market in...
For me it was (from earliest to latest)
Queen: Greatest Hits / The Works
Iron Maiden: A Real Live One / A Real Dead One
Jimmy Hendrix: Various songs
Guns N Roses: Appetite For Destruction / Use Your Illusion
Nirvana: Nevermind / In Utero
Metallica: Black Album
I’m certainly no expert, so take all this with a pinch of salt, but I did a quick read up on the tariffs yesterday and this is what I found.
1. Importer pays.
2. All goods from the EU will have a 20% tariff as a general rule.
3. This EY article (below) indicates that goods listed in Annex II...
Made one final discovery when dialling in my XTC the other day (which or may not be useful to someone else at some point). I don’t use effects often and I use my loop volume controls as additional Masters. It seems that at some point I’d selected the Parallel loop. I switched back to the Series...
An oldish thread, but wanted to say that I found it really useful. Bought a fairly recent XTC a few months back. Liked the core tone and feel of the amp but couldn’t dial out a fairly ear fatiguing higher frequency. I’d read about the Treble control and worked out the Presence but couldn’t get...
Rewind Electric. I have a Low Wind A2 (bridge) and a Bloomfield A3 (neck) in one LP and a set of PAF-1 A4s in another. I prefer lower wind Humbuckers in my LPs for higher gain stuff as I don’t feel the need to drive amps that are already high gain (or being hit with a boost) via a hot pickup.
Mesa Stiletto - they are up for sale for around £1k here in the UK and sit for ages. The vid below (not mine) is a great review with some (to my ears) good tones.
If I could only have one, it would be the Marshall but, as you say, they are different enough to justify having both. Both sound killer. Your amp list is insane by the way - what a collection (past and present).
Just a comment on the VH4 - great amp, versatile, surprisingly good clean, channel 3 is “that” sound, channel 2 can get quite Marshally (at least mine can - it’s from 2021and from comments / clips I’ve seen, the newer ones seem to be a bit brighter than the older versions) and channel 4 has more...
Sorry, totally forgot to reply to this bit! Both sets of shelves are Ikea Billy Bookcases. I had to add the supplied backing piece to the tall set of shelves to add rigidity (the more tacks you use on it the better) and then cut holes in it for cables / ventilation, but the Billys work really...
I’d say it punches in a different way (the way I have them dialled in anyway). I’m going to butcher this description, but to me the VH4 has more subs going on, it’s thicker and is like being punched in the stomach. The Headfirst is more direct and is like a punch to the face.
Although the clones are no more, if the quality of my Headfirst is anything to go by, the Alta and Evil Joe are fantastic amps. Jason is a great guy to deal with too.
