Roadking II vs. Mesa Mark V?

My opinion is kinda like the above ones. I don’t think you’d be happy at all with the mark or Marshall tones out of the V given you have a way better mark and a way better Marshall already. The road king would be different enough, and fill the space between the two. Only downside is the RK uses...

    Acceptable blemish?

Kinda looks like wax/ epoxy from here. Not sure if they pot emg’s but I’d try to scrub it off with alcohol or something stronger.

Have I have been scammed by a member or am I just clutching my pearls too tightly?

It would be a real shame if we had a wall of shame like the old steroid boards had with names, addresses, and phone numbers of guys who tried to pull a quick one on sellers. Hope your issue gets resolved amicably.

    Cameron rundown

Has to be eddy lenz, Hanneman handed lenz a soldering iron and Heineken straight out the womb and said get to work.

    Start 80’s JMP 2204 vs later JCM800 2204

You’ve got screen grids in both. Very cool to find a jmp with higher than normal plate voltages. I wonder if it’s Canadian spec given the fuse board, do you have a 16ohm out? So much space in that 800 for mods!!

Thoughts on modifying a classic amp

I don’t see a problem with it provided the mod is done well, but there a lot of shoddy workmanship out there that will ruin an amp. If everything’s way out of spec I’d just put in a new board loaded the way you see fit. Then you can swap it back to original if you sell it to the tan pants.

    Cameron rundown

Man I’ve wanted to build a Cameron for a while now but could never find a schematic, now I understand why. That things a nightmare inside. Very cool to see the “Jose” caps though. Might have to give that a try.

Mystery Knob on Back of Ed's Amp Was FET ?!?!?

I look at it like this, we know vh wanted distortion at lower volumes as did everyone of that era. And he was sneaky and super protective of his tone. A master volume on the back of the amp would do both for him, and it being on the right side would allow him to fiddle with it while playing...

    Vito has melted my face.

If memory serves me correct whoever produced that album said he did that song in one take. Absulutley insane

    Tube buffered phase inverter

Maybe they say things differently across the pond but I think it’s gotta be a long tail PI given everybody’s used one for the past 70 years of amp building. There’s not a lot of room to reinvent the wheel in terms of phase inverters.

    MESA 80's half-back 4x12's

Not sure who designed them, from their catalog they say it’s for punch and generally sounding big. You might find this interesting, it’s from the 84-85 catalog. THE HALF-BACK CABINETS Two-Twelve and Four Twelve cabinets have been around for a long time. But if you think MESA/Boogie just...

"Amp feels good under the fingers"... WTF?

Im a big “amp feel under the fingers guy”,there’s a lot to it but it’s a squish and bounce thing. I think a lot of it comes back to the tonestack, and which style you prefer. It’s the same reason why some guys say a Marshall is hard to play, while a fender-ish amp might be easier for them. That...

    What amp?

Absulutley, I haven’t played the cool shit like you have but I feel like the mark 3’s ride a fine line of gain and harmonics, and your always battling the 6600hz slider vs presence. Given that guys ears I don’t think he can do much wrong.

    What amp?

Herm modded 2203 would be my pick for things that actually exist. If I could have one to rule them all it would probably be a hermansson modded boogie mark coliseum, while it doesn't exist it should.

    Transformers for 2203 build

For a modded Marshall thing I’d go Hammond/heyboer. Personally I have some Hammonds in my clone and it’s spot on. And as you’ve seen by now nobody has a bad thing to say about heyboer either.

    Transformers for 2203 build

Heyboer/Hammond are kinda the gold standard. Not the pinnacle but still very good. Can’t go wrong with either. Mercury if you want high plate voltages and dc taps. But they’re expensive Merrins are the closest clone to the originals but if memory serves me correct your gonna wait a while.

    Thoughts/opinions? ‘82 - 2204

Add a loop, they’re about $70 and not really invasive. From memory it’s like two wires going to pots and one wire for power. Wire it without an on off switch so no holes are necessary. Anyone who complains about a metro or headfirst style loop on an 800 should be beaten with a fretless wonder...

Not sure if anything on my amp was damaged.

I think your right on, to me it sounds like a tube issue. Only thing I’d do is open it up and look for any burnt (like you said), and post the pics here. Then swap the tubes and fire it up while it’s open. Provided nothings burnt, odds are the fuses will save the important bits.
