    Van Halen's iconic Frankenstrat stolen

Definitely not the original Frankie. Probably not even a replica. I'd guess if it was at the Hard Rock, it was one other many striped Kramers he had used on tour.

playing someone elses sig model guitar

First of all, if you're playing it live, 90% of the audience will have absolutely ZERO idea that it's a signature model. Secondly, if it plays good and you dig it, then that's all you need to know. I absolutely love my Richie Kotzen Telecaster, so much in fact that if I had a Tele built, it'd...

    5150 discussion

The original concept with the 5150 was to capture the SLO smoothness that EVH was using at the time, but also have the immediacy of his old Marshalls. I think they did very well. I had one of the first versions, and loved it. Shoulda kept it.

How Many Pedals can you power??

I have a Pedal Power 2+ and want to know how many pedals I can power with it. Obviously, it has 8 power ports, but then there are splitter cables that allow you to split the signal and send to 2 pedals. Can you do this for every port on the pedal power?? Do you lose signal at all? Can I use a...

    WTB - Kramer Nightswan

I'd be surprised to find a Nightswan under $1500. If it's a lightning, it'll be closer to $2k.

Choose one of these speaker options for my SLO...

I prefer greenbacks over V30s for the SLO. However, I've yet to try the Eminence speakers they use in the Soldano cabs.

FS: Bogner Ecstacy 101B with Marvel Mod - Price drop

Typically, the Marvel Mod is a 3 position toggle. 1st position is stock (pre-2004 red channel), middle is the Cameron, and 3 is the "post 2004 red gain."

    WTB - Kramer Nightswan

I had a Nightswan with lightning graphic in high school (1990). Unfortunately, I sold it in '95 for like $600. I hate myself every day for doing that.

Would you put an effects loop in a vintage amp?

Yes, but only if it's done very well. I have a 1971 Super Lead that Dave Friedman did some work to, and part of it was installing a loop. I'm also going to have a Metro loop installed in my '78 2204.

    SLO - quick gig clip

You might consider dialing the bass back on the amp if you're using the EP Booster.

    Low end in guitar sound

Yep, and yep. Most of the guys who are all about huge low end are bedroom players. Once you get into the world of playing live, and ESPECIALLY recording, you realize that it's more important to get the guitar to sit right in the mix that just what it sounds like by itself. Many times, in the...

Has anyone modded a Vibrolux for more gain?

I have a Fender Vibrolux CVR with the Fromel mods (which kinda make it a '63 vibroverb reissue) -- I'd like to see if there are some simple gain mods that could be done to the amp to make it more suitable to my needs. I've not found a distortion pedal that I feel sounds right, so I'd like to...
