Look up the episode of Tone Talk with Mike Soldano. At one point a viewer asks this question, Soldano politely defers and then Dave Friedman chimes in and explains exactly what is the same and what Mesa changed. Rest of the episode is pretty cool as well, lots of great info.
Edit: Found it and...
I picked up this cheap Korean-made LP copy by Agile used online from GC for like $200, bought it mainly just to use to test pickups. I have owned a couple other of their LP's before and I didn't think they were all that great. This was a slightly nicer one with a real flame maple cap, but didn't...
Even that's not guaranteed. I bought an old Ibanez RG from a very active member here on RT years ago (haven't seen him post in a few years but he had a good history and a ton of feedback) ... it showed up with the string blocks on the Edge bridge literally rusted in place and the rest of the...
I have yet to play an EL34 amp that sounds and feels as good as my old original 2-input Friedman BE100, she's a keeper. I did play a Cameron Ocean-modded JCM800 once that was up there as well (different sound/feel but absolutely killer), one of those would work too.
They mostly all sound great except the Headrush, but to me the Kemper's the only one that to me really cops the feel of an actual amp. Haven't tried the Cortex yet so maybe it can too.
That said, if I was gigging one I'd probably just take the Helix. The interface is just so much simpler. Or...
I pretty much only use my Twin with Strats, but other than that, it really depends on what I'm going for. Most of my other amps are versatile enough that anything goes, like a BE100 sounds awesome no matter what you plug into it.
Beautiful. I LOVE the C24 Floyd, I also have two of them (pic is of my Black Gold Wrap 10-top). Frankly I think they sound way better than the regular Custom 24, some combo of the maple neck, bridge and pickups I assume but I never liked the off the shelf PRS tone - the Floyd on the other hand...
I don't know about bodybuilding but I think pickups/gain has a lot to do with it. I find his new signature sets (especially the Sonic Ecstasy) basically unusable with how compressed they are. Then keep in mind he runs a boost circuit in the guitar itself for solos, hits the front end of the amp...
Both the Marshall and ADA are awesome pre's, but I've always found the Marshall a bit more versatile. It can get pretty modern if you need it to (hell, Petrucci even used one to record Metropolis on Images).
I had a buddy who did something like this with a Palmer. He'd go into his pedalboard straight to the front of his Plexi (no loop), into the PDI and then through to his 4x12. Then he'd send one of the line outs to the board, then 2 more through to a Lexicon and a couple TC Delays and then those...
They will look out of place if you're going for the vintage thing, but Graphtech Ratio's are far and away the best tuners I've ever used, period. They make little adapter plates so they can fit just about any mount without modifying the guitar.
They're so good I'm basically just switching over...
The Apple obsolescence thing isn't nearly as bad as people make it sound, especially if you buy the pro-level stuff like your Mac Studio. My recording computer is a cylinder Mac Pro from 2013 and it still gets regular updates from them (I just updated to the latest MacOS Monterey) and runs...
When I ran a Synergy rig I had the Morgan AC module and the Friedman BE module both running through the Synergy power amp which is a Fryette design and runs 6L6's, they were both convincing. I think Dave voiced the modules to work with that power amp so it's probably got some tweaks to...
Pretty much. They're designed by the original manufacturers but built at BAD where a bunch of other high-end stuff is made, Friedman Soldano etc. The exception being the Mesa clone module, which was designed by Fryette and isn't licensed.
Now I've seen everything... Custom pickups coming from Pariah were set to arrive today to California - paid the upgraded shipping because I'm getting tired of how delayed this project guitar is getting (expected it to be done in March). Update tonight is "railroad mechanical failure" in Illinois...
Highly recommend looking into PedalSnake - will allow you to run power+4cm with just one single cable between your amp and floorboard. Makes setting up/breaking down quickly a breeze.
As far as multi-fx units go, I've really been digging the HX Effects. The effects in the Fractal units are...
I built my first cab for like $20 when I was a teenager, bought half a sheet of scrap 3/4" birch at the lumber yard and had them make all the cuts on the table saw so I just had to assemble it. Bought a greenback off some dude on an old forum (probably guitargeek) for like $40 IIRC. Was janky...
