Of all the stuff I've had, when I listen to my recordings from the early 2000's, I had the recipe without realizing it at the time.
Marshall 100 watt Vintage Modern and matching 4x12, with a Jeff Beck Strat. No-matter what pedal I put in front of that amp, it sounded great, plus the Gain...
When I post clips of gear, its mostly wanking bullshit.
Back in the day though, when I was playing to backing tracks, I played with much more musicality.
This is one of those, using a Menatone Top Boost In A Can, 7-knob version.
That was awesome! Long-time fan. Saw UFO opening for Rainbow in '75. He was killer then and still is.
Is that a Marshall 2000 series? If it is, between him and Nuno w/ the 2000, I'm interested in it.
I waited a year for this and sold it within a month. The HOWIE pedal was fun, but to have a whole amp dedicated to that tone (at that time) it wasn't for me.
I wish I still had it though.
In the early 2000's Menatone made 7-knob versions of most of their OD pedals. I had them all.
The Howie in particular. Made me play and phrase things a bit different than was my norm.
Fender doesn’t even offer the Yngwie in that Powder Blue color anymore. I had one or two of those too, nice color.
I will way this. I much preferred the DiMarzio HS-3’s.
Probably from being naturally left-handed. My right hand is my weak hand, so it was the most natural way for me to hold the pick.
I know Steve Morse holds the pick with 3 fingers as well. At least he used to.
I
Is there any technique, no-matter how much you try, you just can't get a handle on it?
My personal list is a long one-
1. can't alternate pick
2. can arpeggiate chords properly
3. can't chug open A (ala every Ozzy tune)
4. can't hold pick properly (3 fingers) which in turn means I can't...
I got my Boss Waza Chorus (and a bunch of other Boss effects) in front of my 3rd Power Dragon amp. I got the gain on the amp dimed. There is no annoying noise when I kick on the chorus.
I've tried it in the effects loop, but the volume goes up several notches, so I don't use it that way.
No huge fanfare. Just a killer band and great tunes. The 4 Convicts paroled to sing backup is a nice touch as well.
Also, kudos to the Soundman, who actually lets you hear the guitar clearly.
I had no problem w/ the build quality.
My gripe is the amp is excessively bright. Also excessively bassy. I found the brightness impossible to dial out, using a Strat.
He addressed this with the 50 watt JEL, it has a 3-way bright switch for each channel.
