    Hotplate Line Out Tone Question

I don't have a hot plate, but tried the line out of another attenuator (one that is much more expensive than the hot plate) and it sucked. It was muddy sounding. Get a DI box. I settled on the Whirlwind Director+ and have been happy with it. Put the DI between your amp and the hot plate, with...

Never come across an Ovation I liked

This is my favorite guitar. Too bad they made them for such a short period of time. To me the body shape strikes the right visual balance between strat and Les Paul. More companies should take on this body shape today! It also feels more balanced in terms of weight distribution on your knee than...

    Anyone under 40 care?

Never was into VH and it's not a tone I would want. That said, I can get why there is a lot of tone chasing going on. EVH had a unique tone on those early albums, a sound I've never heard come out of any amp I've plugged into. So I can see why it's an elusive holy grail that guys are after...

    The realities of life

Really sorry to hear this. I was injured badly in an accident and had a doctor give me the "we all get old, it's just that it's happening to you at a young age" talk. That is a real eye opener to hear. Avoiding surgery is probably a good idea if possible. I'll recommend something cheap to try...

Cornford RK100 'profiles' posted on Kemper Rig Exchange.

I'm curious to hear more about why you ended up returning it. Did it not capture many amps well enough? You found that the amps you have are the tones you actually want? Inquiring minds want to know! :) I almost bit on a Kemper, but instead have a TNTL on order. It's cheaper and I like the...

    Time to Tune down!

This is obviously proof that tuning down as low as possible sounds better than E standard. :D For an iPhone app iStrobosoft is a great tuner that supports changing the reference for A.

    Kemper or Two Notes CAB/Preamp

If it's being used for silent recording it seems to have merit. Well, only if the loadbox in the Torpedo is better than whatever other loadboxes are out there (hot plate, etc.). Any thoughts on the advantages of its loadbox compared to others?

What's the best high gain amp you've played?

I'm really happy with my Peters triple channel. Just can't decide whether I like the FSM or Hydra channel better. Others in my favorites list for high gain are the VH4, Hagen, and 6505.

Michael Wagener comments on the Kemper Profiling Amplifier

+1 on these questions. Also, can cabs be mixed with amps? Or are you stuck with whatever amp/cab combination was profiled?

Tube amps for Family Home Use?

Similar situation here. Tube amps can work fine though. I second the Two Notes Torpedo Live suggestion. I have a similar setup running using a load box and DI, then running that into a computer running the Two Notes plugin. It works well, and should be a nice contender against the AxeFX when...

    WOS III Public Release

Sorry for the late response! This turned out to be my mistake. I had indeed downloaded the update. Thought I installed it but when I checked the version in the plugin it still showed 3.08. Installed it and all is well now. User error.

    Drum beat machine?

+1. The drums sound great and they are easy to use. Select a "drummer" and dial in a point on a single x-y graph for how easy/complex and how soft/hard you want him to play. It's not hardware, but it's the best I've seen by far for usable drums for the non-drummer.

Thinking about an Eleven Rack. Looking for advice.

It's going to be said by several others here, but I'll say it first. :D Looks like a Kemper is perfect for you. This is exactly what it was designed for. Since you like the tone you already have, you can profile it to use it live. It comes in 2 flavors, lunchbox and rackmount style. And then...

    WOS III Public Release

Loving the WoS III plugin! But I am still getting crashes on the new version of Logic, Logic X Pro. I'm running the latest versions of both as of today. The crash happens when I close Logic. It reports an issue with the WoS III plugin.

    NAD!!!! Peters 3channel

Congratulations! I was just about to post an overdue Peters Triple NAD thread, but I'll crash in on yours instead. :D Hydra/FSM/Halo here. I love your choice in cosmetics! Mine has the same black faceplate and black anodized knobs as yours, with only some differences in the LED colors. The...

Heavier strings sound better; it's a scientific fact.

Light strings and a heavy pick. That's the best tone and playability epiphany I had in the past several years. :) I used to think heavy strings sounded better. But noticed that several of my favorite players used light strings. So I gave it a try, and have never looked back since. Easier to...

What vst's and cab impulses are you using these days?

Lately I really like the Kalthallen impulses. And amazingly, it's donation ware! http://cabs.kalthallen.de/ I own several of the others but have found some of my favorite sounding cabs in this set. For an IR VST I like the one from Redwirez, mixIR. Makes it easy to use any IR file out there...
