Mxr gt-od is my choice of boost. I like the Maxon 808 but I feel it cuts too much low end. I think the Mxr cuts just enough lows to tighten it up but doesn't cut too much.
I have a total of 9 heads and a rack setup with 5 preamps and a power amp. Low used prices is what helped me build up this arsenal. I got some great items for hella cheap, but it's a tuff market to try and sell anything.
I agree that the music composition is brilliant. I also agree that the album can be fatiguing to the ears, but I personally don't think they should every change it. To me it is like changing star wars the way George lucas did to the original trilogy.
I don't know that remixing and remastering...
I totally agree. He puts in all the long hours in the studio as well as anything Metallica related. None of the other guys in the band seem to be bothered by it.
A lot of great info in this thread, I will start by summarizing. Then I will add my tid bits.
1. Maxing out the gain on the crunch channel is the money shot.
2. Using any kinda clean boost pushes the amp to full potential. Especially for metal.
3. Is very picky about the cab you use. I don't...
The clean is not as "clean" as the regular model, the input is very sensitive to active pickups.
The other two channels are a lot more aggressive sounding. I did not like the smooth gain of the original, the stealth definitely took care of that.
The resonance control on the back can bring the...
For the MTS I currently have a salvo mamba, jaded faith Venom, a egnater ultra XL, and a dragon. The Mamba and venom are framus cobra based mods. My rack Mts modules are purposely related to my heads for a reason. I wanted to have similar sounds for the studio as I do for my personal collection...
I was thinking that. Just not sure where to go for my marshall fix. I thought about building my own also but I don't have a lot of experience with them. The only thing I have experience from the marshall side is a Jmp-1, but a lot of people say its not to much of a "real" marshall.
Good point, I have been thinking I need a marshall and recto in my inventory. Diezel and Randall are on my want list, but a mesa and marshall are on the need list.
This is another amp suggestion thread and I need your help. I want something a new and fresh for my ears.
I currently own:
Peavey 6505+, 3120, Triple XXX II, Rockmaster preamp
Randall V2 Archetype
Engl Savage, Special Edition preamp
Evh 100S
Mesa Triaxis, Mesa 2:90
Egnater M4 with various...
That's the rumor. I think 175 were in the first batch, 75 over cause a glitch in the ordering system. They are gonna do 250 this time and then they will make no more, like we have not heard that one before
I used to rock a F-250 back in the day. It was a Black gold type of color, don't remember the name of the paint.
Its nickname was the BONECRUSHER. That guitar had the most stable tuning I ever had. I don't know what it was but it stayed in tune no matter what. I really wish I would have kept...
You already have a pretty good list as far as variety goes.
I think your essential list should be this:
JCM800
Mesa rectifier
EVH 5153
Those three give you great tonal landscape.
Latter on you could add:
1. Orange, I don't have much experience with but they do have a different vibe.
2. 5150...
I am a little late on these but better late than never.
BigfnMonster: Bought a Peavey triple xxx II from him a while back, Great communication and shipped really fast. Amp was just as described.
Rickboot: Sold me a Mesa Triaxis in like new condition. Packed it really well as shipped it very...
