This was gonna be my suggestion as well. Agreed, it's equally inspiring at whisper and live band volumes. I've swapped my 100 w Katana head with my Bogner XTC at rehearsal and gigs and am equally happy with both, as is our sound tech. Like any amp, you either connect with it or you don't, but...
1996 or so, went to my local music hangout to try an amp and walked out with a USA Peavey Wolfgang Special. Wasn't in the market, didn't know anything about them, but couldn't live without it after I tried it. I have other guitars that are better players, but that thing is one of the best...
Glad to hear it's working for you, congrats!
Now I need to add that to my chorus "want" list, thanks!
Loved your description, sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. I need old-school thick and lush like Farrah Fawcett's hair, not guitar in a garbage can rolling down a hill...
Have you run the PowerCab yet or is it on the way? I have one coming to run with my Helix. Hoping it might be a quicker grab-and-go alternative to my normal rig. Been using the Helix for fx only up to now so I'm looking forward to digging in to it a bit more and playing with some of the amp models.
Not to stray off topic too much here, but I couldn't run ANY of my Boss pedals in the loops of any of my EVH 5153 heads. I noticed you said you had a PS-6 in your mix. For me at least, it was definitely a level issue. Volume drop, dark tone, neutering, whatever folks wanna call it. The EVH loop...
Dude, as far as tribute bands go, you guys are the real deal. You ain't a nobody to us man! I think Zakk would freak if he saw you guys' clips. And your wife sounds a lot like mine too...can't take her anywhere!
Having been through a ton of passive high output pickups over the last few years, I have to throw the PRS \m/ (metal) pickups into the ring. They came stock in a PRS CU24 Floyd I picked up a while back and quickly shot to the top of my favorites list. Not a lot of discussion about them out there...
One for the books for sure, what an amazing experience! Someone beat me to it, but I was going to ask if you mentioned to Zakk that you're in an Ozzy tribute band. Part 2 of my question was going to be whether you convinced him to make the switch to Fractal or not.
I visited Dave...
I never understood why someone would post a multi-tracked amp demo, and I hear them all the time. For a pure amp demo, I'd much rather hear guitar straight into amp recorded w/ an iPhone. For me at least, it gives a much better idea of what it truly sounds like "in the room". A decent miced...
I'm a major sucker for chorus. Been looking for a particular chorus sound for years and stumbled on Pete Thorn's demo of this pedal and lo-and-behold, there's the sound I've been looking for. It's a difficult thing to pin down and quantify, especially when you're trying to explain it to someone...
Had the same experience with Anderson years ago. Happened upon a killer Drop Top while trying guitars. Couldn't get that thing out of my head. Saved up for a few years and finally got one. :) Even so, sometimes only a Strat will scratch that itch. I have a mutt SSS Strat that I love and play...
I'm mainly a LP guy too and of all the newer Strats I've played/tried, the Fender American Professional is one of the few I really connected with as far as the neck goes (The Edge sig Strat is another). I've played a number of them and have yet to play a bad one...
That is a beautiful guitar! Congratulations!
If you do decide to try some higher output pickups, I'd strongly recommend looking into the PRS \m/ (metal) pickups. They came stock in my CU24 Floyd and I was worried they'd be too hot and that I'd need to replace them. So kind of the opposite of...
Buried in the comments Dimarzio Air Zone - Bridge, Air Norton - Neck.
Based on my personal experience I would also vote for the Aldrich and the Rio Grande BBQ, which is super fat (not dark) sounding. Been through tons of pickups in my LPs over the years and these are two of my faves.
