Mixed tube will run unoptimally, plus KT88 may be too much dissipation and Peter usually don't recommend it. However people sometimes do both just to try things out and usually go back to full KT77 as it's proven to be the best all around combination followed by good EL34 or 6L6.

Low master volume and high channel volume will give you a brighter and tighter sound, with a bit more compression as well. A lower channel volume and higher master volume is darker, less compressed and more dynamic
