Totally depends on your amp and how much preamp gain you are pushing. I love high output ceramics with Plexi type amps. I like vintage hot (9-12k) alnicos with saturated preamps.
I agree with the SS amps. I've never liked them for anything but that Dime sound. About 10-15 years ago, every local metal band here was using Randalls due to Dime's influence. Everyone sounded the same. I chased that sound for awhile and I had 2 winners........an old carpeted RG100ES with a...
I'm not a fan of Anderson pups for the same reasons you explained....but to be fair, ive only used the H2+ in an ESP Eclipse. I had an SSH+ in a Les Paul and it was OK. Maybe a little too "clean" sounding for lack of a better word (almost a single coil quality). I hated the Aldrich in that same...
Why not just get the real deal.....an old SS Randall? I really don't think anything with a tube power section is going to cop a "dead on" Dime tone. There is a reason he chose SS amps. I would think.....or at least hope that any Fortin designed tube amp would sound better than Dime, but not...
Getting married and moving in a new house in 2 weeks..........so no more blasting the amp all night
I'm looking for the best possible headphone solution for late night jamming. My idea is to get the C.A.B. and use the headphone out with my Bogner Red pedal. The C.A.B is a lot of...
Ampeg GVT series and the VHT "Special" series. Both are cheap and take pedals extremely well. I use the GVT 5 watt head + pedals for late night jamming. It has more clean headroom than any low watt amp I've ever heard. No experience on the VHT, but it is designed specifically as a pedal...
I have the HT-Dual and run it into the front of an Ampeg GVT 5 watt head for late night jamming. It sounds really good to my ears, but I'm wondering if I should invest in the Bogner. Does anyone own both or have played them both?
Without a doubt......+1 on the Carvin recommendation. I've owned 3 all mahogany, neck through SC90's and they played better than any guitar I have ever picked up. With the minimal neck break and low action you can fly all over the frets in your sleep. Super easy to play and the tuning/intonation...
Sounds great. I really dig my HT-Dual but haven't used it in awhile. I need to go dig it out of the closet after hearing this  I remember playing a show with it plugged into an old Marshall tube 1x12 combo (Master Lead Combo i think it was called) on the verge of breaking up. It was...
