OK..........here is a couple pics showing the differences in the great sounding speaker and the bad sounding speaker.
The first one is the good one and has a couple of letters follwed only by "11914" on the cone. It has the more transparent/thinner dust cap (different material???). It also...
I edited my last post......I meant dustcap, not voice coil. I just took another look at them and the "bad" one also has a very glossy adhesive. All the others have a flat/matte adhesive.
I'll put up some pics of all this stuff when I get the chance.
I'm gonna chance my stance a bit on the CB.
I have a total of 6 of them. Four 8 ohmers and a pair of 16 ohmers (all bought new). I was having an issue with the sound of one of my cabs so I decided to do a little test. I ended up trying all of them in various configs today and discovered that...
I've been on an exhaustive search for a V. Gisbon has discontinued the standard model and the Custom Shops are just out of my price range. Plus, I was particularly looking for one with no pickguard and a rear route. After my inquiries with 3 custom builders were either ignored or...
Just goes to show how subjective tone is. I prefer the Creambacks and RI Greens. I recently sold off a quad of EVH (Heritage) and black frame Scumback 65's because they didn't compare.
But I'm with you on the Lynchbacks. That is my go to speaker.
That's odd. I don't find them nasal or thin in the least. If anything they might be a hair too "full" sounding in my 4x12. The low end can get overwhelming and tubby at times. But they sound perfect in my 2x12. I prefer the Lynchbacks in a 4x12 format.
How did you break them in? Are you...
I would get 4 Lynchbacks and be done with it. There is nothing fizzy or sharp about them.
I do not like the Retro 30's. They are not a bad sounding speaker per se.....they just don't sound like anything I'm used to. They do not sound like an improved Vintage 30 to my ears. They have a grainy...
The Lynchback is my favorite speaker by a longshot. However, I didn't care for the V30/LB mix I tried. They cover real similar territory in the mids (though the LB is smoother in that area). What I got was a really middy sound dominated by the V30 sizzle due to the db difference. My opinion is...
Meh.......I had a quad of Heritage 65's in my Mojo cab for a short while. IMO, the 65w Creambacks kill them on all levels. They are clearer, more articulate, and don't have the nasal honk of the 65's. Given that I've never played through the original 65's, but the mid Q on the Heritage...
There is no mechanical reason to use anything larger than 16 gauge with a 100 watt head. Tonally, I have never heard a difference between 14, 16, 18, and 20 gauge.
I have a like new Dimarzio 36th bridge laying in my parts drawer. It's black/cream and F spaced. I'll send it to you for free if you send me a few bucks to cover shipping. I have no use for it.
The AT-1 is one of the darkest pups I've ever tried. The 36th is cool, but it has a single coil quality in its attack/ tone.......at least in my experience.
Have you considered the Norton (NOT the Air Norton). It fits your description perfectly. I had it in a few alder guitars and its damn...
I agree completely. Celestion says the Creamback is a beefed up Heritage 12M; however, it sounds closer to the GB Reissue to me. I compared the Creamback, GB Reissue, and EVH (Heritage) in the same cab. The EVH are really loose compared to the others and have less mids.....making them less...
