Recently decided to make the jump from my Kemper to a Quad Cortex. So far, I have been really happy with the results I'm getting. Still refining tones for live use, but it has been such an easier process. I will say that I do miss some of the outstanding effects that the Kemper has, but for...
Both make cool pickups, but I tend to prefer Duncans. DiMarzio pickups have a "sound" to them. Sometimes I like that sound, but most of the time I don't. I find that Duncans let more of the actual guitar's voice come through.
In my tribute band we are running digital. As are most of the other tribute bands here in Houston. It just makes stage changes easier. It also allows me to cover all the effects of the original material.
In my original band I still run a tube amp and cab. It that band I work under the rule...
Picked up a Runt 50 today. So far I am really digging this thing. Much more “Marshall” sounding than the BE100D I had. I’ve got some nice Bandlands tones kicking so far. Pairs very well with my 1982 Marshall cab loaded with G1265s.
In 1987 I wanted to be Ace Frehley…lol. Was also a Tom Kiefer fan. And the came Slash. My first electric was a 1974 wine red Les Paul Custom that I picked up for $450. At the time, a new Les Paul Standard was $800.
I flirt with Strat shaped objects all the time, but a Les Paul is home for me.
Just got my Neural Quad Cortex. The plan is to have a smaller board then my Kemper setup with some different options.... or, I was bored and wanted more gear...lol!
Here's a live patch I am working on for my tribute gig. Still rough and figuring it out.
AJFA is my favorite Metallica album. Followed by MoP. I love the long winding arrangements. Love the disjointedness of some of the songs. It adds an element of chaos to the album.
I don't view them as a metal band. They have some metal parts in their songs, but I just view them as a kaleidoscope of music. Similar to an orchestra. Every song has its "movements." I find them interesting and enjoy it for what it is. I think the below song was extremely well written and...
My college band in the mid/late 90s played a radio festival where we were the direct support for Toadies and Candlebox on the main stage. We opened for Skynyrd at the Coast Coliseum. Had a few songs on local radio. Talked seriously to an A&R guy.... and then the wheels came off the bus due...
80s glam metal died because it had watered down to bands like Firehouse. Metal was on the rise to mainstream. Bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Pantera didn't need to wear makeup to sell albums. I enjoyed some of the bands that got lumped into the "grunge" moniker. Candlebox, AIC, STP...
Is this a serious question? Take ash and alder for an example. If you have two guitars that have identical specs apart from the body wood, I can definitely hear the between an ash, alder or mahogany body. Pickups are a microphone for the guitar. You can shape the input gain and the EQ...
Mom and Pop brick and mortar stores are dying. They simply cannot compete with the Sweetwaters and Guitar Centers of the world. Hell, even Guitar Center is struggling to keep up with Sweetwater. They don't have the buying power to get lower margins for sales. When I started playing in the...
