Did you buy it new or used? I ask because stock they are biased stupid cold, so you may notice a huge tone improvement by just getting the stock tubes biased properly.
Broski, I really think it is as simple as a UK V30 loaded Marshall cab with that amp in terms of cab/speakers. I am sure other owners will agree on that.
Stay away from Tung sols in the pre for that amp as it is already fairly bright. Maybe RFTs or Mullards? TBH the stock tubes are really not...
I think it's just a Bogner Ecstasy model. They should have added a Shiva or Uber as well. People seem to dig the speaker breakup feature as well. If you ever run it direct to you PC try using some IRs instead of the built in speaker simulation. The amps sound even better !
Also, could you tell...
I hate to hijack your thread, but I have a local deal on a G-flex and wanted to get your opinion on the cab. Do you think it would sound bigger than a 2x12 recto?
Awesome clips  !
The plexi clip is super warm and dynamic.
I think the lack of dynamic range of the iPhone's mic is what is killing the saturation in your AIC clips. It's picking up too much of the bass and not enough mids and highs. I am sure with an SM57 it would sound like JC himself...
Being a Mesa Boogie 2x12 owner, I would strongly suggest something else. If you check out Big Rich's Mark V videos I think that a substantial part of his tone is coming from the Bogner OS 2x12 that he is using, which is significantly taller than a MB 2x12. I think Avatar Traditional 2x12s are of...
And this...
This is my only complaint about the JVM, and why I might sell mine. I'm running it through my MB 2x12 so I might have to try a legit 4x12 before dumping this jewel.
I agree with Big Rich here. Channel 2 is criminally underrated. I can get Mark 1 mode to sound pretty close to a DR in vintage mode. The Mark I mode is just stupidly thick its awesome.
In person I think channel 2 is actually thicker than channel 3. Its a little more bassy and the mids are round and do not get boxy as you turn them up (like on channel 3). I agree with the above post that its not a british crunch, but I like it a lot. Channel 2 really is a Black Magic Woman...
Fair enough. PG really should have checked out Ola's tutorial for mic placement and blended two micas like Jason. That aside, I still prefer Jason and Ola's riffs, but that's a matter of taste
