I have an extra 100 watt Power and 100 watt Output transformer for a Marshall Plexi / 800. If I use them for an amp build, does it have to be 100 watts? Can I use 100 watt trannys for a 50 watt or 40 watt build? What are my options? I already have a 100 watt 2203 clone.
Thanks!
Good luck with one. When you find the solution, you will be a billionaire. Air comes with volume. Turning down, no matter how, will change the tone. There's always a compromise.
Actually, I think I hooked up the ground up wrong the second time. I didn't verify because it turns out my amp doesn't need a PPIMV anyway. The first time I tried it, like I said sounded pretty good for a quick listen.
That's a Larmar type. What we're discussing is different. His PLEX amp originally had a Larmar for a master so that's probably what he's referring to. What I tried sounded awesome and is not a Larmar type from what I understand.
I just got around to trying this while doing some tweaks to a 2203 build I just did. I kept the 220k grid resistors and used test leads to temporarily hook it up. I used a 250k audio pot. I must say, it worked and sounded pretty good. I can't really compare it because all of my other experiences...
It's not. It's called a rip-off. The guitar cost no more to make than any other Les Paul. They''re trying to make a profit of 8 grand money grab. Pathetic!
I'm hoping to do the same thing with my DSL 40Cr. I want to use a stereo delay in the loop and feed a second amp's effects return with the delay. I tried it at home but the delay I have doesn't sound too good when I use the dry out. The volume drops by half when I turn the delay on. I need to...
Think this is bad? Go to the Marshall Amp forum. A couple of poor guys over there are scratching their heads and chasing their tails trying to figure out what pedals were used to get the gain Ed got on the first record. They were told many times that the studio mixing / mastering had everything...
What I found is that it doesn't really matter. V1 is most important and even in that spot, the difference between tubes is usually very subtle and not that big of deal. That said, I had some old JAN12AX7s that sounded a little better in V1 compared to new stock types.
You need a David Bray Line Out Box the connects to your speaker out and converts you speaker signal to a line level. That's what I use with my Superlead to feed effects and a Power amp.

I'm ok with up to 10mA spread. I put the highest and the lowest mA measurements together as one of the pairs with a quad. Always worked well for me with great results & tone.
