Just posting to say that's a cool looking guitar as is! That mirror finish is pretty trippy and cool to me, so I'd probably keep it as is.
But either way, congrats on the score and I hope you enjoy it whatever color it ends up being.
Love Tommy Aldridge! I got into him with the "Go for What You Know" live album from the Pat Travers Band. Here's one of the few live video clips of the classic lineup featuring Tommy:
Drum solo starts at about 2:38
I wonder if he still has his Ibanez Destroyer (Explorer shape) from back in the day. Both he and Ace played one at one time or another. I've wondered whether the "Destroyer" album title was inspired by the guitar's name.
There was some great playing bandwise on the G Force project/album. Great band with Michael Shrieve on drums. Strangest Gary Moore guitar tone though since he apparently went direct into the board. But the songs themselves were a little more rhythmically adventurous including this one:
Hard to beat that opening tone on Mean Street. There's some studio sweetening to be sure, but that underlying foundation is such a beautiful Marshall tone.
Great thread and great tones all. That's part of the magic of a classic Marshall circuit. With some tweaks to the settings, so many of those classic tones are in there.
I dig the Analogman Mini Chorus. To my ears it's a rich, deep tone that can be set for a variety of sounds, including Leslie sorts. I usually use it for clean tones, but it's great with distorted tones too. It actually reminds me of old MXR phase shifters in that application.
+ 1 to the Marshall style pedal. I've used a Suhr Riot pedal into so many different backlines and it always brings the Marshall flavor. Have fun in Sturgis!
Thanks for posting about this. I was interested in this after seeing Euge Valovirta demonstrate IRs using the earlier version of the St. Rock. Sounds great to me:
