I'd say Mark IV as well Carl. A Peavey 6505 may be a cool choice as well; it is a lot like a EVH 5150 III but with more balls, more bark, and less fizz.
Active: EMG 81/60
Passives:
Motor City Pickups Garuda Set (open and well balanced with great mids)
Suhr Aldrich Set (fat and clear)
Duncan Custom 5/Jazz (if you like smooth and full)
Duncan Alt 8/Jazz (if you like open and bitey)
I have a '69 Plexi here now, and it is a freakin' monster for metal; it just doesn't have that sub thump. There is nothing wrong with the lack of "ass" in my opinion. I actually like when the bass guitar carries the bass.
The Plexi amps have an incredible chime and immediacy to the notes. They...
I don't really hear much of a resemblance at all aside from that Freyette and Fortin both make amps with tons of character.
The Freyette stuff is more direct and less rich overall- they sound awesome, yet don't have as much substance around the notes- perhaps they are a bit less dimensional...
I played one in a controlled environment along side 5 or 6 other amps and I really didn't like it very much at all. It was one of the few amps I would describe as bland, and didn't have much punch. This had the whomp II and all the bells and whistles. It still sounded good, but it was nothing...
Hope this is close enough, but how about a complete rack amp? Kyle Rhode's does make the first real balls to the wall rack head: http://rhodesamplification.com/products ... rs/artemis
Do you have skills with a soldering iron?
If so, build your own! Canare GS-6 cable with Neutrik ends is UNSTOPPABLE in my opinion. It's a great sounding, wide bandwidth cable that is incredibly inexpensive if you build it yourself.
Hey guys, I just wanted to check in \m/
First off, thank you to everyone who was concerned about my fellow Long Islanders and me. I am perfectly fine, while most of Long Beach was in ruins. The ocean met the bay, and my house was literally in the middle of the Atlantic. Water came up halfway up...
Thanks for the kind wishes, Dave.
Everyone toward the middle of the East Coast is in my prayers. I saw parts of the Carolinas, New Jersey, and Maryland under water.
