the best distortion pedal, or what?!!?!
Picked up a heavily used, quite beat up actually, DS-1 for $27.
Put it in front of a clean(ish) Peacemaker, and wow! Great Hard Rock/Metal tones. Yes, I was playing loud.
Anyway...........
I use 9's at 440, 10's or 11's in Eb, depending on the guitar. 9's feel sloppy to me, too, in Eb.
I read EVH used to use Fender Bullets which were 9-38 tuned sometimes lower than Eb!!!!! Loud amps compensate for a lot.
"Intonated" is subjective, IMO, although obvious when out. I've used strobe tuners to do it, it's perfect according to the tuner but still sounds out a bit. I use the tuner to get it as close as possible, but still use my ear to tweak it. Some guys need it set differently than others due to...
KILLAH!!! I have a '79 that's been modded to hell - EL34's, gain mod, dedicated clean channel (yup, a channel switcher), fx loop, foot switchable extra Master Volume.......
Yours sounds awesome, man. NICE!
Yeah, das me. My dad says the same thing about Ewa Beach... all houses and golf courses now.
The guitar that has the Mule in it is actually Dan's.  Original Charvel neck from the 80's, Fender headstock, Tom Anderson Body, Floyd... Killah!
I have 57/08's in a Single Cut and love them. Beautiful clarity, no false midrange to get in the way. I have just started using a BKP Mule in a bolt on, pieces/parts guitar and that seems to be a clear, higher output (than the 57/08) pick up. I've heard great things about BKP's, and the Mule...
If your using the 3rd finger to bend, the tip of your 2nd finger should be (could be) touching the 3rd string, effectively muting it. I use two fingers to bend (2nd and 3rd) so the underside of my 1st finger will mute the 1st string. The outside edge of my right palm mutes the rest. Good luck.
What is this heavy sounding D drop tuning he keeps refering to? Jiminy, he can't even tune his guitars! The E is tuned to B? He needs way more help with basic things before you jump in with both feet and show him the light, as it pertains to gear of course. Marshalls........ c'mon!!
Very nice, Bro-chiato!
Sounds like there's not much liquid legato sauce, but the tone is fantastic.
Less gain definately gets closer to "Brown" than more gain.
I find it mind blowing that EVH could pull off the stuff with relatively low gain (by today's standards).
My Marshall is in the shop...
