Yeah, I fail to see the point of this amp since they already offered a 25 watt Mark V. I think it's great that there's options available, but I'd rather see a Mark VI than a Mark V:35. I'm just not seeing the reason for this. I'm sure there is a reason they released it, but I'm not seeing it.
I've always heard great things about Laura. I was looking to see what tubes were available and wandered into her site for a while. I remember her name back during the HCAF days and everyone always raved about her. Good to see she's still around!
Looks amazing man! I love the natural finish on that! Wasn't the Explorer Pro something like 30% smaller than a normal explorer? Your explorer looks like it's just like the standard explorer (at least the size)! I even like the cavity covers you made!
That looks very similar to a lot of "transblack" Gibsons I've seen. They seem to either come out a purple-ish or brown-ish shade. Let me guess, it has a black back and neck, right? If you haven't yet, maybe call Gibson and have them tell you for sure what color that guitar is based on the serial...
Check to make sure you have all the grounds soldered correctly (the solid black wires in the WMG diagrams). I've had the experience of having a cold joint on a set of EMGs and it sounded really anemic, but was fixed by pressing on the joint.
That's a cool little read. I wish it gave more examples from the builders...like if Bogner explained that he tried expensive caps in the Fish and realized changing to cheap caps in XXX value sounded better.
I really like looking at some of the gut shots of amps and seeing how the builders...
I was going to say that it's most likely a bridge that needs some adjustment, but look at the locking nut...it looks like the high E string is too close to the edge of the fretboard, even at the nut! I'd guess that it's either a bad camera angle that shows the high E so far towards the treble...
That's awesome man! These are definitely rare! I've only seen maybe 2 or 3 pop up for sale in the last few years. Your guitar is most likely chambered and it will definitely have an ebony fingerboard. If your guitar is like mine, it will have a super thick neck. Like, bigger than a '59 neck.
My...
They're the round, metal scratch protectors on the bottom of the case.
I was a little freaked out by that bright white spot too! Originally, I thought it may be the microchip Gibson puts in their guitars. I was completely relieved to know that those white spots are parts of the case and not...
Awesome man! Congrats! You may be the only other person on the forum that has one! My 68RI isn't aged though, so I'll have to wait for mine to age gracefully!
If you have a chance, see if you are able to weigh yours and post up the numbers! I've heard that all of the Pelham Blue 68RIs were...
The only one that really interests me is their EQ pedal. The other pedals on the market focus on on different frequencies, but Mesa's focuses on the exact same ranges as the EQs on the Mark series, which is the thing that sets it apart from all the others. That and it's built like a tank.
I...
I concur.
There was even some of this affect done on Metallica's Master Of Puppets, but IIRC, they ran a flanger of some sort to get the depth. If you get a program that allows you to slow down the tracks from the album, the "modulation" can be identified.
I can say with extreme confidence that Mesa/Boogie made prince two custom Mark IIC+ Coliseums for his Purple Rain tour. Both amps started off as Mesa/Boogie Mark IIB Coliseums and were later modified to Mark IIC+ Coliseums. One was actually discovered in a small shop. They actually say "Prince...
The difference in sound is that using into a lower ohm rating (on the amp) will sound darker.
One thing I like to do is plug in two speaker cables from the 4 ohm outputs on the amp into the stereo inputs on the Mesa cabs. In this scenario, it doesn't sound darker, but for whatever reason, it...
There's few things better than a new guitar that sounds tits!
The headstock shape and silkscreened logo look a little different to me. What did this start off life as? It kinda reminds me of the Melody Maker Gibsons, but they were light on features. If this is a modded Melody Maker, I'd say it...
They're rarer than say a Revision G, but it's a common amp that is for sale if you know where to look. The thing that makes people think they're rarer than they are is the chrome chassis. Like all of the Recto Revisions, they all sound a little different, but the Vintage/Modern tone isn't all...
The Rev are sound pretty awesome, but they're not as desirable as the earlier revisions, but people have to remember that there's not as many revisions of the Triple Rectifiers as there as the Dual Rectifiers.
With that said, the value is all in the fact that it is a blackface/chrome chassis...
