Yep, real deal. I remember hearing that ESP makes the guitars, and then serializes them before they go to market. If I can remember, I'll post a link up here, but I'll second what the others above have said...ESP'a serial numbers can vary, and aren't an indication not when the construction...
I'm not sure the Classic Gibson headstock looks so great on those. The headstock from the Reverse Flying V would look right at home with the asymmetrical cut in the horns though...
They're great sounding, tough amps, for sure, but I like other amps for playing that style of metal. But, they are undeniably a staple. No doubt. Every once in a while, I'll crank up my brother'a 5150, but I always gravitate to amps that have a little more thump.
Since you have some money to spend, I'll second (or third, fourth, whatever) the guys above and recommend the Diezel VH4/Herbert for its versatility, and the fact that they have 3-4 channels that can be set up independently.
I will add that I was hard-set to buy a VH4 (not the VH4S...they...
I've got a few sets of 18v-modded EMGs in a couple guitars, and I absolutely love how consistent they are. I modded a switch that allows me to select between 9v and 18v on the fly, and I hardly ever go back to 9v, but...
I've unexpectedly been a huge fan of these Gibson '57 Classic / '57...
Nice job TR! I got into Ozzy a little late in life, but I still remember hearing how much emotion that solo had in it! It's proof that a nice pentatonic lead (with the occasional passing blues notes) can sound so powerful! Maybe I'm just weird, but I always played NMT in Drop D Standard with 11s...
As much as I don't want to reference my own gear, I'd have to say the Mark III Coliseum has the best punch/feel of all the amps I've played, but the deciding factor for me is the speakers. The V30s have the best feel when paired with the Coli, and I'll use C90s/EVs for the punch.
I also liked...
I recently started getting into way pedals, and after trying a few different types, I found myself going back to my Cry Babys, but there was always something that just didn't feel right, so I got into modding them, and I couldn't be happier!
I started with the true bypass mod, and then added an...
I don't have any experience with Ibanez's Chorus, but I do own the TC Corona Chorus. I bought the Corona after my Ibanez Tone-Lok Flanger/Chorus broke, and I really loved the results I got from the Ibanez Tone-Lok. At first, I thought the Corona sounded a little too thin, but after I tried a few...
I don't think the recordings are sped up faster than performed, but it does sound like maybe there's studio trickery going on. Back in those days, a bunch of bands were experimenting with weird ideas in order to thicken up their recordings.
I remember the first time I heard Master Of Puppets...
Yeah, if Mike says you're going to love something, he knows what he's talking about. I've shot the breeze with him on a couple amps, and he's always given some really good advice. I've always been surprised that when you tell the receptionist "can I talk to Mike", two seconds later you hear...
I'm excited for you Mailman! I think you'll love the Mark III. I think the only are where the Mark III falls short compared to other amps is on the fact the controls are shared, but having the R2 mod on Rhythm 2 makes it more usable. I can also vouch for how awesome Mike is to talk to. Super...
That's some pretty serious iron! While I'm not exactly sure if bigger transformers equate to better sound, I've loved the tones I've been able to find in amps with bigger-than-normal trannys. Those are probably the biggest transformers I've seen next to the tranny's in Mesa Coliseums. Here's the...
I have a set of 6, original, Mesa-branded, blue-stamped STR-415s. They came stock in my No-Stripe Coliseum, and they sound much much livelier, "springy-er", and thicker than any other STR I've tried. There were also Mesa-branded STR-415s that had a green roll stamp, but I don't recall where in...
Verify that the amp is simul-class. There's a few ways to do this if the sticker fell off. Make sure your output transformer is stamped with 562003. This will verify that the amp is simulclass.
You also could tell depending on what power switch was on the faceplate. If it said "full/half...
Yeah, I've played a bunch of Mark IIIs, and I can say with confidence that any of them SHOULD have enough gain for any style of music. And, keep in mind, the changes to the lead channels got really drastic in the Blue/Red Stripes. The Blue Stripe was basically a Red Stripe that was modded to get...
