NAD: ‘83 JCM 800 2204, Metalhead modded by Elan Memran.

On mine my treble/presence is a little lower, I have the bass maxed without the bass boost turned on and I run the right added gain control wide open. Everything else is the same.

NAD: ‘83 JCM 800 2204, Metalhead modded by Elan Memran.

Congrats! I absolutely love mine, it’s my favorite amp. I use it in a prog-death metal setting but there are a lot of tones to be had when you start turning knobs.

What's your favorite modded / hot rodded Marshall?

My favorite is my Metalhead (Elan) modded JCM800 but when I say this I am talking my amp specifically, it has something special going on. A while back I had the opportunity to try another 800 he modded as well as some of his preamps and they just weren’t the same.

Interesting Marshall Mod…Metalhead and Lee Jackson

I saw that too, definitely a cool amp. I always keep an eye out for other Elan/Metalhead mods, I have an ‘88 2203 he did that absolutely crushes. I wish the seller had included a clip of the amp in the ad. Even though most of Elan’s mods look the same he wasn’t always consistent with the...

Mesa Mark III Purple Stripe vs Mark IV Rev. A - What would you choose?

Sounds like I just have a case of forum-induced GAS. I have a point of reference from playing a IIC++ before and have been more than happy with my III+. I just haven’t tried a IV so all of the comments got me wondering how much better it could be ?.

Mesa Mark III Purple Stripe vs Mark IV Rev. A - What would you choose?

Interesting takes here. Let me ask you guys this- I have a 60 watt no-stripe III with the + and R2 mod by Mike B. I love this amp but from what I’m reading here I am wondering if I am I still missing out despite having the mods. Should I move it along and find a IV instead? I use this amp for...

What’s an album you love but hate the tones ?

“Spheres” by Pestilence. Love this record but always wondered what it would sound like with a more “conventional” tone. A extra bonus is it’s also filled with early Roland guitar synth.

    NAD: Boogie mark III+

Gorgeous, bet it sounds fantastic. I have a 60 watt, no-stripe, III+ myself. Killer amps.

No longer for sale - 1971 Marshall 1959T Super Tremolo 100

No longer for sale, I’m going to hold onto it. I didn’t really think it through as much as I should have when I made the listing and would probably regret the decision to get rid of it.

No longer for sale - 1971 Marshall 1959T Super Tremolo 100

I’m selling a 1971 Marshall 1959T Super Tremolo 100 watt. The amp is in very good condition for it’s age. Everything seems to work well although I cannot test the tremolo circuit (I don’t have the footswitch). The power transformer has been replaced with a Classic Tone and the amp was recapped...

    Kartakou Beastbox tube preamp pedal

This is a Kartakou Beastbox tube preamp pedal. This preamp is based on the Engl E530 rack preamp and has both a clean and high gain channel. It is in excellent condition and functions as it should. There is Velcro on the bottom of the pedal as shown in the last photo. I am asking $325 plus...

Fortin modded Metalhead Elan MK-5 preamp pedal

This is a Metalhead Electronics Elan MK-5 Dino high gain tube preamp pedal that I had modded by Mike at Fortin Amplification. The mod re-voiced the preamp for a tighter feel than stock and a more usuable gain range. The pedal is in excellent condition, works as it should and includes the...

Any interest in an FJA-modded Axis Excalibur (Elan Metalhead) preamp?

Fortin models with Todd Langer style mods?

If you don’t have luck finding somebody to do a Langner-style mod it might be worth looking into FJA’s FML mod. It’s based off the early 90’s Elan/Metalhead mod and is in the same wheelhouse as the Langner stuff. Really tight, plenty of gain, perfect for old school thrash/death tones.

FORTIN's Evil Pumpkin – Made in China?

The Metalhead mod does date back to the 80’s but it is not related to Larry’s Dino amp as somebody mentioned earlier or Lee Jackson/Metaltronix. It was a separate company called Metalhead Electronics run by Elan Memran. Larry’s Dino amp has nothing to do with Dino from Fear Factory, the name is...

    Fortin Demanufacture head !!!!

Yep, he’s just starting to get back into it. I sent him my Excalibur preamp about a week ago so he could make a few changes and get it closer to the sound of my Marshall. It sucks that I don’t have anybody close by for that kind of work anymore but he made the right move, there’s a lot more...

    Fortin Demanufacture head !!!!

I was always under the impression it was just going to be a one-off amp for Dino but I’m not gonna lie, I got pretty excited when he made it sound like it was going to be a production model in the video.
