Been saying this for years! Cabs are the big difference maker in tone. Even the same cab with different speakers isn’t as important as different cabinet construction and dimensions.
I used my old IV with a horizontal recto 212 with the UK V30s, Chinese, and a few other mixes over the years. It’s pretty good but I vastly prefer the Traditional 412. The cab dimensions are more important than the speaker in this case IMO. I really like my Marshall 1960b as well.
I love the layout and how easy EZ is but I’ve been having trouble getting most of the cymbals to sound good in a mix. It could definitely be user error but they seem to sound a bit “trashy” and brash and chew up a lot of the upper frequencies in the mix even when I bury them. I might give that...
Of all my amps I own or have owned recently (Mesa, Bogner, Fender, Marshall) the one that I never feel the need to use pedals with is my 2555x. It just sounds awesome straight in, definitely tight enough if you’re not going for metal tones, dead quiet and nails the tones you mentioned.
The only...
I ordered a PS-2 a couple weeks ago from GC with a discount code. Still on backorder but I can’t wait. I have a few big amps I’d like to try out with it and I’d also like to try a Synergy module or Studio/Triaxis if I can find one and use the PS as a power amp. As a side note, anything Boogie...
My year is ending with me getting rid of my beloved Mark IV and picking up a Tremoverb. I just got the Friedman Smallbox pedal which is great and a nice alternative to my staple which is the original Bogner Red (still my fav AIAB)
I have a Fryette PS-2 incoming so I can get the most out of the...
Those prices are ridiculous. As far as the Uber vs other high gainers, I personally love them. I shot out a rev blue against a rev F two channel Dual recto, a blacked out Multiwatt Triple, Splawn Nitro, Peters (forgot the model), EVH 50 watt and a few others through a bunch of different 412s and...
Yep, this is just a different take and not a revision. It’s not replacing anything and they’ve done this plenty of times (remember the Maverick, Tremoverb, Roadster, etc)
The clips aren’t blowing me away but I love the idea. This is essentially what I tried turning my dual into years ago with...
I'll check the song out after work.
As far as the personal stuff you're going through, I'm sorry and please hang in there! I'm going through some rough shit at the moment and have dealt with my fair share of heartache, both from relationships and depression, family issues, etc. It's big of...
Not really ear-fatigue related, but try comparing the same amp into different cabs/speakers. Now that makes a huge difference. Different high amps into the same cab only have slight differences in my experience, especially once you get them up at high volume. Speakers are like 80% of the...
Best cab I’ve ever played through was a Cameron 412 with H30 anniversaries.
Honorable mentions are the traditional/Stiletto Mesa 412 and Bogner with V30s
Splawn 412s sounded great too with big and small block speakers
Yeah, I haven't had great luck using it as a boost but I know it can be done. Same with the RAT..some people are able to get it sounding great as a boost into a Marshall but I prefer both as a distortion into a clean amp.
Thanks! Yeah, I go back and forth between the Guv'nor and the Bogner Red as my high gain pedal. Both are great! I have a few other drives sitting around so I can swap pedals whenever I want to change it up. The Boss OD-3 and Xotic BB pre stack perfectly together and were the core of my...
Nice boards!
I'm actually a minimalist when it comes to effects so it's funny that I built a monster board. I always loved the idea of a huge board or a small rack with a switcher and pedals mounted on sliding shelves.
Took 10 years but I finally did it and while it's fun, I still prefer to...
