the new ones are Fortin versions. the current stock versions are supposed to have tags that say Fortin modified....but you gotta make sure it has the tag, or it's an old stock model that doesn't sound as good.

i called musicians friend and asked if they could verify the Fortin hang tag on the amp.....they will email me after they open a box and find out. i read somewhere else that a guy bought one back in November and it was modified. for $299, if it's Fortin modded, it would be hard to pass up...

i doubt the Randall has the tweak.....hence the price. but at that price, i could afford to get the tweak. not sure what the rd45's are gonna sell for.

sounds like it's a heat related problem. i used to do electronics work back 20 years ago and i ran into problems like that in various gear. mouser electronics (or similar parts store) sells some freeze spray that you can use to test for problems fairly cheaply. the process is pretty simple...

it's fairly easy to get that feedback when standing close to the speaker with pickups that have a fair amount of highs and high mids. a marshall type preamp section would be a lot easier to work into feedback than say a rectifier.....because of the way they are voiced.

i had the pod hd500 for a week, and i compared it to the eleven rack and it wasn't even close. the pod was like fizzy digital crap. i recorded some clips and posted them on soundcloud. having said all that, i hear that the updates made the pod sound better. how much better i don't know...
