i enjoyed the playing more than i cared about the pedals. honestly, if you didn't have pedal information scrolling on the video, i would have forgotten why is was watching the video. you freaking rip man!
ok, in playing around with my newest Singtall Krunch preset, i somehow made this final EVH preset:

here is the clip:

after this, i give up. there is just no way to make a chorus...
the distortion is what i call "clear". in more technical terms it means that the distortion is made up of more mids. more bass sounds mush. more highs would give it a single coil spank. i learned to pre-eq back in 1989 when i got my first Rocktron preamp, which featured an eq before the gain...
as much hype as there was on this latest preset, i was almost scared to release it for fear of it not sounding as good on other people's gear. but i felt like it was a real breakthrough to me anyways, and maybe it would help someone to dial up what they wanted by using this preset as a guide.
i...
here it is:

here are some details:
based on my quest for the brown sound, so i used some early EVH tricks. i didn't like the plexi as much as the JCM800 for some reason, so it is what it is.
eq before the amp allows me to tweak my...
Yep, it's true. a modeler into a solid state amp, into passive full range speakers yielded the tone i've been trying to get for years. when i had my dream crunch tone back in the day, i played through a massive rack of doom into two 4x12" cabinets. well, that was 2004. since then i've struggled...
i traded some gear and got another Rocktron Prophesy II (my 5th one) the other day. i believe i had some blah experiences with it in the past because i paired it with the wrong speaker cabinet. i tried this one with my old grey fuzzy 1993 Carvin 4x12" cabinet and even the factory presets...
for me, a treble bleeder is a must-have. i use the seymour duncan recommended values and it adds some brightness/clarity is you roll back your volume control. very cool if you want that EVH tone.

if the axe-fx can't do it, then the eleven rack certainly can't do it either. i will work on a cheap approximation and be happy if i can at least get the basic amp tone right.
one thing i am fighting when making presets is that it sounds and feels one way when playing with headphones, and...
the eleven rack doesn't have a pitch shifter nor harmonizer available. i'm using a slow chorus to widen it and a delay to slap back on one side....that's about all i can do effects wise. but i can tweak the amp model more and get it sounding tonally closer.
i believe you are right on with the comments. i will make some adjustments and try it again. thanks for the input.
i was actually trying to make a "Balance" cd preset, but then i played "humans being" from the movie "twister"....and i wasn't sure if they even sounded the same...and top it all...
i went back through the mods tonight and tried the optional 2 mods again just to make sure i wasn't missing out on anything...and i'm not missing out. the head sounds perfect without the two optional mods.
i played the blackstar ht-5 head against my modded X100BFG and they both have the same...
check this video out, it's supposed to be a modded x100b, but it sounds totally stock. see if you can hear the midrange splat sound starting at about :27

since redoing the preset, i recorded another clip to showcase the new tone, this was done with my purple strat w/ humbuckers using the new preset:

i learned some of Amsterdam by Van Halen and played with the new preset and i have to say i'm pretty stoked at this point. i also tried different amp models and none of them are close to the right tone or feel....that surprised me big time. who would have thought the modern rectifier would...
i added the white boost in front of the amp to give clarity to humbuckers. if you download any of my links you will get the new version. if you have single coils or a EVH pickup set, turn off the white boost.
