    Ceriatone Chupacabra mods

Sorry, a little late to the party here, but good thread so far...... You are generally stuck with whatever B+ and screen voltage your PT and choke give you, so what I typically do when looking at voltages in Marshall style builds is start by targeting 345-360 volts at the PI node. The dropping...

In over my head for a first amp build?

Yup! This is a very ambitious project, even for someone who has built an amp or 2. I built an SE100 clone a few years ago, and it kills now, but it was a bitch to get it right. Some of the issues encountered included: The circuit will need either a custom turret board, or you can start with...

    Ceriatone Chupacabra mods

I was wondering the same thing, but I think he's referring to the .022uf from the tone stack/mv into the pi and the.1uf on the other pi input. The Friedman Dirty Shirley has a .0022uf on the pi input fwiw.... Seems the majority of this discussion is about the pi OUTPUT couplers and the bias...

MESA/Boogie® Mark IIC+ full demo & overview ft. Doug West & Tommy Waugh

Great video!! Thank you  Which version I preferred depended on the riffs. Given how close they are with the exact same settings, I'm thinking you could get an even closer match with some adjustments to the RI, especially with the GEQ. The only variable left is the feel, and it...

Just Checked Out This Marshall JVM Demo And...

Meh... I get the attraction of all the different tones and switching options, but the overall tone here just sounds kind of "cardboardy" and lacking in any kind of sparkle or punch, which has been my experience when trying these out. These and the DSL's kinda fall into the same boat for me. They...

What's the point of the Marshall Vintage Modern?

The overall build quality of the VM amps is pretty good. The low gain channel is fantastic. The high gain tones suck donkey balls. But seriously....for $500, you're getting a good quality chassis, transformers and a headshell plus all the other bits, which is way less than you'd pay for those...

    Changing Plate Resistor...

Lots of good info in this thread! The above quote is the ONLY way I would consider implementing this type of mod. Even if you use relays, you need to do it by switching in a parallel resistor so that the B+ to the tube is NEVER interrupted, even momentarily. A properly rated pot is fine too...

I think I found my next non ES guitar purchase....

Rik Emmet, guitarist and singer for Triumph, a Canadian power trio from the 80's. Lots of vids out there...... Probably the most famous Yamaha SG player other than Carlos. These guitars are actually very high quality, and fly under the radar somewhat. Construction is neck-thru, with the center...

Jose-ish mod to Bassman AB165 (draft schematic enclosed)

    1) there's a problem with the way you've drawn the plate supply and the bias supply. 2) what is the purpose of the 10k between the 2 haves of the plate supply can cap? 3) you have a fet gain stage before the fet follower. No idea whether this will work or not, but you don't need another gain...

    EVH 412 cabinet speaker question

Yeah, the greenbacks are always on top. The 55hz H30's sound quite different from the Anniversary 30's, but both sound great mixed with the EVH greenbacks. The cab with the Anni's works really well with amps with diode clipping, or 4 or 5 gain stages. Hat tip to Psycodave for that...

    EVH 412 cabinet speaker question

Agree! The EVH greenbacks are fantastic. I have 12 of them lol! Used is an even better deal if yer just after the speakers...... I bought 3 used 4x12s out of the local big box rental stock for $400 each, took out the speakers and flipped the empty cabs for $150 a piece. I have a bunch of great...

A friend of mine has narrowed his new amp search to an EVHIII 100 watt standard 6L6 or Stealth 6L6, Stealth has resonance controls....

Yeah, sure... but you would have to pull the board, as the pots are pcb mounted. The taper on the stock pots is more of an inconvenience than a deal breaker. You just need to be aware of whats going on.

A friend of mine has narrowed his new amp search to an EVHIII 100 watt standard 6L6 or Stealth 6L6, Stealth has resonance controls....

Yeah, I think I put a 100k pot in series with the existing 39k nfb resistor. 39k off the 8ohm tap seemed a bit much. It opens the amp up a bit so it doesn't feel so compressed and dark. The presence pots are audio taper, so that doesn't help either. All the good stuff is bunched up between 1...

A friend of mine has narrowed his new amp search to an EVHIII 100 watt standard 6L6 or Stealth 6L6, Stealth has resonance controls....

Just a heads up: NEVER put El34's or 6CA7's in a 6L6 5153 100watt. The PT was not designed to put out the heater current required by those tubes, and worse, you will likely melt the heater traces on the power supply pcb @ the fuse holders. I've seen this on a couple of occasions, and manged to...

    Getting Feedback

You might have the polarity of the output section reversed, and you are getting positive feedback instead of negative feedback. Looking at the pic, the easiest way to check this would be to reverse the 2 wires between the master vol and the power tube grids. If you ever remove the master and...

    friedman post phase master design

Found these pics on another site. Supposedly the Master vol on a Suhr SL68 MkII. Looks like the pot is shorting the bias splitters. This would increase the negative bias voltage to the power tubes as you turn it down, gradually cold biasing the tubes and slowly turning them pretty much off. It...

Friedman C45 setting on Marshall mods and og BEs

My BE100 is from 2015. It has a fat switch to parallel a .022uf cap over the .0022uf coupler, and C45 switch. The C45 switches the voltage dividers, as you said. Position 1 is 68k/68k, and pos 2 is 560k/220k, with 680pf over the 560k. Edit: I typed 280k, it should be 220k.

    friedman post phase master design

I was wondering if he has the PI coupling caps connected to the wipers of the dual gang pot. That would keep the effective bias splitter value constant at 117k and the bias stable. Dave has mentioned that when you turn the master down, it loads down the PI.
