Mmmmmmmmm .......junk steel.........
Marshall probably contracted out the Origin trafo's to the lowest bidder in some obscure Asian locale to try and keep the cost as low as possible.
However............
Ho - Lee - Fuk........do them damn transformers sound good. :inlove:
Total sleeper mod...
Congrats on the new setup!
Looks really cool.
I feel your pain re: moving.
We moved last July. What a shit-show....
Still gonna be another month probably, until my music room is done.
Also, glad to see I'm not the only guy with a Captor X, a Suhr RL, and a cab M LOL!
They all have their...
Yup, I'm thinkin' the Sylvania's are the gold here, with the RCA's sounding really good in anything "Fender-ish".
Never been wowed by most other American NOS 12ax7's in guitar amps. Tough as nails, but not that tonefull for anything with gain.
I like the Sylvania's because they seem to have...
The black bands can either face each other, or be on opposite ends. It will work either way.
Technically, it shouldn't matter which way you do it, but i hear a slight difference in tone each way.
Can't say one direction is better than the other, just different.
Put 2 configurations on an...
Or.... if you're handy with a soldering iron, you could pick up an Origin 20 or 50 for cheap and do these mods...
This is from forum member Burger, or Headfirst Amplification:
I scored an Origin 50 at the local big box for C$400 ( approx $315 USD) and followed the vid, and the docs Jason has...
Holy shit
Not too well versed in the Ozzy / Randy / Jake / Zak history, but that clip is f'n amazing......
Much respect to Mr J.E.L :rawk:
ps.: One of my fav things about this place is that you guys post clips that I would never have seen otherwise....
Carry on
Sorry, a little OT, but thanks for the heads-up on the Laney. (y)
I was not familiar with that amp, so searched and downloaded the schematic.
Interesting power supply rail and filtering arrangement.
Schematics with the voltages listed for the nodes is always very instructive as well.
Based on scarcety, $3-4k.
Based on tone, $1k
The Slash AFD tone is indeed thin and scratchy.
It works for Slash in a classic rock band mix, but it's an acquired taste for sure.
A beefy sounding guitar with darker low output pickups is a must, as stated above.
Been outta the loop for a bit.....This is some really good shit
Just spent a couple hours going down the u tube rabbit hole, checking out what these guys have been up to, and I'm diggin' it !
Biggest surprise for me was Smith's vocal chops. didn't expect that
Yup! but...
FUK!!!!!
I would have been so down with this, but I just relocated from Mississauga 7 hrs north, off grid, out in the middle of nowhere.
I hope my former GTA bro's can make this happen, and I look forward to the reports!
And yeah, there's a lot of heavy players in the GTA with some serious gear...
Yeah, and an over the top filtering scheme.
Someone mentioned the Orange drop caps.
I certainly wouldn't call them cheap, as they are a quality brand of caps, but they do have a sound to them.
Like every other amp, its the sum of the parts.
There is really no mystery to how Rick gets the...
Cool vid! Thanks for posting.
20V and the MPSa06's sound great :2thumbsup:
I love MPSa06 for a SAT circuit. It can be a bit much gain-wise. but the tone is always killer.
I hate the feel of zeners lower than 20V or 18V.
Actually, I usually do 20 / 18V zeners and MPSa06 on a switch. The...
Interesting..... I've had mine for a while, and I think it sounds really good.
I've seen some meh reviews of that pedal lately, and thought it was kinda strange.
But........my pedal has the jacks on the side

Amazing product. Expensive, but worth every penny.
10 loops,
can do 4 cable hook-up
Can act as an amp switcher ( AB/Y ) plus switch your amps channels
Not sure about re-ordering FX ?
Stupidly sold it to scale down my rig.
Tried to replace it with a...
Ampete user here as well.
I'm running the 444. Highly recommended (y)
4 amps into 4 cabs ,plus it can switch your loop FX chain between amps when you switch amps. Killer feature.
Fantastic piece of gear, and total piece of mind with thousands of $$ worth of amps connected to it.

Fixed or cathode bias has nothing to do with whether the circuit uses negative feedback. Negative feedback comes off the OPT and connects to the phase inverter.
My experience has been that cathode bias only affects the feel, making the amp more saggy / squishy vs fixed bias. I haven't detected...
