I use those 11-56's as well, and that's what I recommend. But the tension on those 11-56's is kind of a hybrid set where the higher strings are somewhat close to 10's in E, and the wound strings are close to 11's in E.
No idea. Honestly, I'm digging the SSH+ better anyways. Seems tighter and more attack-y. I ordered a second SSH+ for the Tribute.
I've read that about the JB, but I've never experienced that, personally. I have had a couple of DiMarzios that have that awww vocal midrange sound which IMO is...
As far as I know, CV-75's and the Mick Thomson speakers have Kurt Mueller cones. So that might explain why those kinda stick out on clips. To me, at least.
Much better than Eminence, LOL.
I love V30's in almost any shape or form. Mesa, Chinese, Marshall, all sound good to me under different applications. My favorite recording cab is a Mesa Rectifier oversized, but in the room, I love a Marshall 1960AV or 1960AX. Those record well too.
Which leads...
For me, the thing with Eminence is they can be made to sound ok in the room, but really fall apart under the mic. I don't know if the SM57 is just not the right mic to use with them, but I mean, it's not like 57 doesn't work well with a very wide variety of other speakers.
I'll admit I've not...
Only have experience with Texas Heats and V12's from Krank cabs.
Both horrible, but that's JMO.
Texas Heats are unusably dark and have got kind of a honky midrange. People often complain of how aggressive the presence is on the Krankenstein, but if you play that cab, you can kinda tell why...
That dude's thumb always freaks me out, LOL.
But that's a very interesting pedal. On the samples, it does sound like it gets very djenty. Wonder if it's good for some chuggy Metal.
Gonna have to to that next string change. As they are right now, I feel like I'm liking the SSH+ better just because it's behaving as an actual hot pickup, which is kinda what I want out of these when I got them.
I like the clips, but I would be curious to hear how they sound in the angled part of the cab. Straight sections on angled cabs always have this weird vocal thing going on in the low mids that I always prefer to dial out, and angled speakers don't quite have that.
I don't find the mids on a JB weird? It is VERY mid-forward (for a passive), is that what you mean? Both the Aldrich and the SSH+ seem less mid-focused than the JB for sure, but I'm not even sure my Aldrich is functioning like it's supposed to.
I got my SSH+ into my Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite today, and my initial impression is... wow, there's definitely something wrong with my Aldrich, LOL.
I just gave the SSH+ a quick spin, and I like it. It's not far from what you'd exepct from an Alnico 5 17K pickup. It's pretty evident it's a...
I wouldn't say brighter than SM57 either. Mine isn't. It's more mid-focused than the SM57 even, IME.
I suppose it's a good live mic. But I didn't find any use for it, personally.
I hate it. I got one thinking "ah, it's gonna be like a SM57, but better". It's not. It's has tons of output, but it has like no low-end compared to the SM.
Oh, wait, do you mean the original Beta 57? I have the Beta 57A.
I'd say give the 57 a try. Figure out what you like about it, and what you don't, and then move from there.
I find that if a plain old 57 doesn't sound good, the problem is somewhere else in the chain, especially once you start to drop other instruments in. But I appreciate some people just...
He gets super deffensive with people who criticize his strap thing on Instagram too, LOL. He's hilarious. On the iterviews he comes off as such a dork.
Yeah, I don't mean to say it because it doesn't sound good as is, but I'm kinda very specific as to what I'm looking for in pickups... but I go through phases, so if whenever I finally pull the trigger on a Classic I'm in the mood for something PAF-y, I'd probably keep it.
Contrary to what most...
