I'm loving the Aldich! I'm wondering how the SSH+ compares. Is it just an underwound Aldrich? What does that mean? Slightly less output and slightly more open top-end? Does it run on the same "Special" Alnico 5? Does it do well in non-Strat-types? Anybody got any clips of it doing teh MeTulZ...
Nope. It's Duncan Solars. The Killertone Texas guy has the BW's in his. But Ola uses the Solars which are just Duncan Designed versions of the Custom 5. Alnico 5 scoopy mid output pickup with a big bottom end.
He does use the other Solar guitar with the Fluences in there at parts in the vid...
I think it's the same with most Charvels, LOL. Today's Charvels are not far off from just being Mexican Fenders with Floyds and a different neck profile.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, BTW. I'm just saying that many Strats with humbuckers might not be what you expect if you're used to Gibsons.
Yes, it would help a little, but not night and day. If you don't like the pickups generally, it's best to find something different. If you like them, just want a tiny bit more, then yeah. :D
Believe it or not, my Strat is actually less snappy than either my Gibson or my LTD.
The "problem" I find with Strats is, when they have bridge humbuckers, Fender pickguards tend to have the bridge pickup super far away from the bridge itself to the point where they start taking on almost neck...
Thank you!
Well, yes and no. With tone knobs, even if they're on 10, there is a little loading of the pickup(s). By removing the tone knob, you "open them up" just a tad and make them a tiny tiny bit hairier and more aggressive. I prefer the sound of pickups like that, personally, and I don't...
So who has one? How is it?
Kinda like the idea of one. I love my Tribute, but one thing I don't love about it is the fat neck. The Studio Modern kinda addressed that and has other features that I find appealing like the compound radius.
Thoughts? Pics? Opinions?
:)
In my case, they got along well with my Krank because my Krank was very scoopy and heavy in the lows, so the added mids helped a little. But to be honest, that Krank was VERY picky, and only wanted to sound good when/if the planets aligned.
But as soon as I got my EVH, yeah... they weren't...
Depends on what kind of mids we're talking, but my H's were actually honkier than V30's. So probably less upper mids, but more core "Greenback-y" woody mids on the Creambacks for sure.
I'm pretty sure Creamback H's vary a lot. Mine were way brighter and not as chunky as my Vintage 30's, but...
I'm really digging it, honestly. It just caught me off guard that it isn't as high output as the DCR had me believing. I suppose that has to do in part with the Alnico 5 that Suhr use.
I've liked BB Pros in the past, but I've never gotten along with BB 1/2/3. I had the 2 and the 3 in one of those 1959 Epis. But it could've just been the guitar. It was alright, but not fantastic.
What did you not like about it?
I personally don't love that it's so high DCR and it's so not blistering hot output, LOL. But that's kind of irrational of me. It sounds good, it's just not what I was expecting. I guess what's "negative" about it for me is that it's neither a full-on hot pickup...
I haven't tried rolling down the volume, honestly, but I did find that clean, the Aldrich sounded more usable. It felt less like there was a less of a huge mid hump that really wanted to start distorting. Clean, I heard a more open and detailed top-end too.
Not apples to apples, but I recorded this quick clip. First is the LP with the Aldrich, then my LTD EC-400VF with a Duncan Antiquity JB: *CLIP*
Keep in mind the LP is naturally tight and aggressive and the LTD is naturally fat and round. But I think it's pretty evident to me that the mids in...
