FINALLY! I tried a Suhr Aldrich. My thoughts.

The thing is I don't think the treble on the Aldrich is all that much more. It's just voiced differently where it's more open. But it's also got the extra fatness to counter it, so I think the Aldrich comes off overall as fatter but not darker. At least IMO. But if you think the JB is chirpy...

I can post a clip later today or tomorrow. :)

FINALLY! I tried a Suhr Aldrich. My thoughts.

To sum it up: It's not what I expected. I got the Suhr Aldrich today to drop in my Gibson Les Paul Tribute. I had a JB in it that I liked, but there was room for improvement. I thought it was a bit thin on that particular guitar compared to my other two. That Les Paul is really tight and...

EMG Emblem Color on EMG 60

All of the 60's I've had were non-metallic gray like the pic I posted. They've always been like that, as far as I know. Maybe you got an odd one?

EMG Emblem Color on EMG 60

Well, if you like the rest of the guitar, I don't think it's such a big deal. EMG's are easy to swap and not hard to come across used. I'm sure the 85 is even easier to find used than the 60 if what you want is an 85.

    You can see it here.

EMG Emblem Color on EMG 60

No, the 60 does not have a silver logo like the 81. It has a blue-ish gray non-metallic logo to differentiate it from the 81.

    Nice, Eric Peterson on GibsonTV

Yeah, I was gonna comment on the tone they dialed in for him there as well. Way too much gain. Cool guy and killer band, though.

29K ohms DC resistance on my Sterling Luke pups.

I think that means rather that the boost is not true bypass, not that that's the pickup's DCR. Active EMG's and Fishmans read 20K-something as well.

So another "Gear" forum reports the MESA multi-watt is 86'd. Wat say you ?

I hope not. I much prefer the MW over the Badlander. Not that the Badlander is "worse", but I'm not even sure as to what makes a Badlander a Recto to begin with, personally.

Guys who play out (or used to)…question

One? I didn't think it was common practice to bring more than one, but I play/used to play mostly bar or small-ish venue gigs.

    Who's using a Klon-type for metal?

The 805 is great. There is more gain range than my TS808, meaning it's cleaner when the drive knob is set low, and more when the knob is set higher. It has the EQ section which is very usable and intuitive, but even if you "clone" an 808 with the 805's EQ section it still has its own character...

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

I've looked into the RTM, but A2 would seem to suggest it'd be less hot than the JB. Is it not?

    Who's using a Klon-type for metal?

I wasn't really recommending the ZW for the TT. It was good with the DT, but I feel like it would just thin out the TT too much, same as TS-types. As far as OD's that have more neutral mids, I think OCD might be worth taking a look at. Or maybe a TS-type that has EQ capabilities like the Duncan...

    Who's using a Klon-type for metal?

Yeah, I'd assume a mid boosting pedal into a mid boosted amp would sound like listing through a telephone speaker. Keep in mind, though. The Klon is also mid boosted, just in a different kind of way. My Dark Terror loved my Wylde Overdrive, but the Dark Terror had a way to offset the...

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

    Tone Zone? JB? Ant JB?

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

I actually have an AT-1 in my Strat, and while I do find the attack smoother like the Antiquity JB, I find it has less low-end and output than either the Ant or the regular JB. Killer pickup, though.

    Fatter JB soundalikes?

I do have a regular Custom lying around and an A5 magnet to swap in. Maybe I should. I will say, I didn't like the ceramic Custom, LOL. It's too thuddy and not very JB-like at at all. But maybe A5 would make it closer to the JB. One thing that I worry, though. It's definitely not going to be as...

    DSL100HR. Is it just me?

I used to have a 20HR, and I didn't like it. The bass was very thuddy rather then punchy. My biggest gripe, however, was the mids. It seemed like the mid knob had no sweet spot. Like it was centered around a weird frequency where boosting them made the amp sound super stuffy or scooping them...

Best thrash / extreme metal tones ever

That whole record is like that. It's killer. But it's their only record like that. Their other stuff is more like Melodic Death Metal meets Black Metal. Pretty cool, but very different-sounding.
