Song is not mine. I remember hearing it on the Sneap Forum way long ago. But anyways, just riffing out to compare them all.
They're not all JB's, really, LOL. One of them is a DiMarzio AT-1. But an AT-1 is pretty much just a DiMarzio JB, haha.
So it's my LTD EC with an Antiquity JB, my Fender...
I think it's cool because it's certainly a different tone.
I'm not sure I dig the hollow mids and the slight hint of fizz, to be honest, but I guess you could build a cool mix around it. I do think it would make for a good more old-school Thrash-y tone! Either that, or some sort of early...
I got into them when I was in highschool, personally. So for me, it's part nostalgia, not gonna lie. When I started listening to Metal, I didn't know better. I still listen to those couple of albums from the mid 2000's, and they sound great to me, though. The less Emo-y bands from that style...
IMO tones that sound good mic'd always sound good in the room.
IMO tones that sound "good" in the room, don't always sound good mic'd. Especially when someone is not used to dialing in tones that will work well in a mix.
I also think it's a good idea to have a few reference tones that you like...
Yeah, I agree that somewhere in the middle would be ideal for me. Although, as they are right now, I prefer the first half.
EQ tip: Try scooping out some lower mids as well as what you're doing to the high-end. That would bring out some air and life on the guitars as well. Compared to the CC...
I think the problem, for me, is that the drum tone on that record really brings everything down.
I hate how the drums are so cardboardy and drenched in reverb. Rathen than sounding roomy, they just come across as so distant.
Looks like a paint crack to me. I had one develop on an old EX-401 like that too, but it held up for the time that I had the guitar with no issues.
But if you bought it new, I would just get it replaced, honestly.
I used to have a QP for Tele in the bridge position of a Squier. I loved it, but it does seem like it's a completely different pickup altogether. Different DCR which probably means different wire gauge, coil dimensions, etc.
What are the Strat QP's like?
I use a compressor pedal for my clean tone, and yes that fixes like 90% of the issue clean.
But then distorted, there is obviously no volume jump, but it does feel hard and dry to play through that single coil when setting up a lead sound to work with the bridge.
I guess I just don't like...
I have a DiMarzio SDS-1 in my Strat matched with a Duncan Custom in the bridge. I don't like it, LOL. I mean, on its own, it's alright. I just feel it's a little whimpy when it comes to output, and there is a volume jump when switching between them clean, unless I really crank up the height of...
Is AILD Hardcore at all? What I like about Shadows Are Security and An Ocean Between Us is that 80% of what's on those records could very well be put out by a band in Gothenburg. JMO.
I think SD-1's get along with Rectos great.
For me, it's either SD-1, Zakk Wylde OD, or a Tube Screamer that has the ability to cut more low-end than a stock 808 does for a Recto.
Mallcore or not, I think their tones are great. But there goes Tim's redemption arc.
I started listening to them back when I was in high school. Typical kinda high-school teen angst music. But they stuck with me because they were one of the more Gothenburg-y bands in the scene if you look past...
