@Racerxrated man I wish I would've looked into the ARS caps before I went F&T. They look like the stock ones.
Not sure of their quality, but you got me interested in them. They're sized right to replace the stock Boogies and they're rated at 350v.
@BesaMoogie you may want to look into...
I’ll put it to you this way…. There’s 2 options with those mains caps and both manufacturers offer the same stock values/ratings and dimensions.
The only difference is F&T cost a tad bit more but have a reputation of being a higher quality cap with less failure rates. Either option won’t do...
@Racerxrated thanks for sharing. Keep in mind the F&T’s I put in my Mesa amps are the (2) 220uf @300v mains caps (non Simul-Class).
The other (4) caps are all Sprague 30uf @ 500v, the same manufacturer & values Mesa used.
If you go the IC route here you’ll be using 47uf @ 500v. That’s what...
@BesaMoogie I see what you’re talking about. Your easiest solution would be to sell me the Rev C and let me worry about that cap ?.
All wishful thinking aside ?, I’d change the cap out and save the old ones. If resale value is the concern you can always store all the original replaced...
@BesaMoogie do you mean Sprague 220uf @ 350v?
Check their dimensions, they’re longer than stock by ~ 1 inch, which made them too big for my Mark III’s.
The stock 220uf @ 300v mains caps were made by Mallory. The only companies making caps with same ratings and very close dimensions are F&T or...
@BesaMoogie not sure if you saw my post on FB. I just went through the same thing and spoke to Mike B. about all the options. I went with the following because I wanted stock values.
Buy (4) Sprague 30uf @ 500v caps & (2) F&T’s 220uf @ 300v caps. These are the same values and dimensions as...
@PansyFlowerpot I was impartial to the EVM12Ls that were in my Mark III combos, which is why I converted them all to heads.
Not sure what it is, but that vintage 4x12 Boogie cab with early 80's EVM12Ls and a closed back just slays. Especially at loud volumes.
She sure ain't much to look at...
@Racerxrated you got good taste. @GJgo you're a better man than me to let that amp go.
That Rev C sounded tits in the YouTube clips you uploaded, especially with the 5881's.
I hope to stumble into one in the future, but am not about ready to sell a kidney to buy one.
The last one I saw...
When I ordered my JJ KT77’s, the guys at EuroTubes recommended their KT88/KT66 custom quad, with GZ34’s and a 4A fuse to run them.
They say a stock DR will handle it with no problems, but I can’t get onboard making a new quad work by upping the stock fuse value from 3A to 4A.
@napalmdeath what KT77's did you use? I ordered a quad of JJ's from EuroTubes for my Rev. F. last week.
I found the JJ 6L6's I had in it were too scoopeed and loose on the bottom end. Hoping this makes the amp more responsive.
Closer to a Rev F. If you are set on a Dual Rectifier and price conscious, I'd go with the MW.
They're more flexible and a better bang for the buck than the 2 channel options.
@Techdeth ?? was keeping my neighbors up last night with my 3+ HRG Red Stripe.
Had to test a very old 4x12 Boogie Metal Grill cabinet loaded with its original EVM12L’s that I bought.
I’m surprised how reasonably priced those cabs are. They sound awesome and are built like a brick shitter.
@dr teeth we can thank the Mark III’s popularity to its greatness, to social media exposing how underrated they were and the inflated Mark IIC+ prices.
The III’s are definitely great amps, which is why I bought 3 of them ? (2 DRG No Stripes w/ 105pt’s & a 3+ HRG Red Stripe).
As for the...
@dr teeth cool amp. It has been for sale out here before ~3 months ago asking ~$1.3k. This price is somewhat reasonable.
However, Mark 2C's have been selling for sub $3k as of late (below). The used industry is about to see prices continue to decline.
Take it for what it is worth, but next...
