Is the Dragon with the drive knob off, really the same than the Standout with no blend knob? I might buy one soon but i want to make the right decision.
I remember putting cheap Chinese 12ax7's in some Peavey Ultra Series from the early 90's and i was shocked, to me nothing else sounded better in those amps at the time. Probably because most amp builders were starting slowly to design and tweek their amps with the tubes that were available to...
I'm not sure if it makes a big difference if it's for a Rev 2 instead of a Rev Blue.
The best combo i've found so far for the Rev 2 Uber is: Chinese (Beijing) military square getter 6N4-J for preamp and EH 6CA7's for the poweramp.
The Beijing 6N4-J are very good. They are similar to some new Chinese production, but sound a bit bigger and less harsh. I really like them in the Uberschall.
Some folks around here have a couple of them for sale from time to time.
By the way, just to clear something up about the Schumacher output transformers change in some of the later Rev F and G. Mesa made a request to Schumacher for an improved transformer, because the old ones were unstable and blowing up some boards.
I tried both OT with the same amps, it didn't...
Like Forman65 said, the most agressive, tightest of all rectos is the Rev C, no contest. It's the closest to the Mark series in tightness. Mesa tweaked the rectos over the time to be smoother and bigger, revisions after revisions.
exo-metal, you had the most brutal recto years ago, too bad you...
So i guess you had the same experience than me with the Dino MK V preamp pedal. I didn't had anything to compare to, but i was expecting something like the original Metalhead Elan MKII in the clip that Nick made a long time ago. I was pretty disappointed in the product.
I'm the one who said this!
Mine still runs at 12 volts from the day i got it, Mike told me that i could do that.
Keep in mind that mine is a prototype, maybe Mike changed it before production.
I bought an Uber from SLOgriff lately.
Super cool guy and very easy to get in touch with. The amp was shipped blazing fast and professionally packed.
Great guy to deal with!
Oh shit man! Yeah, ship this thing back as soon as possible. Now it's clear that there is something wrong with the amp, nothing to do with the early break-up thing that i thought.
Sorry, i can't help you with the color choice. I was hoping that Mesa would provide you with some infos on that. I like my recto set at 28-30mA, now what color would give you this?
Guys like Psychodave and GJgo have lots of experience with these amps and tubes, they would know better. Greens...
I'm far from an expert on this, just trying to help you.
My guess, it's all about the money. They don't care if you have a problem or not, they save the cost of new power tubes.
