Regarding voltage, as far as plate voltage, pretty much all modern el34 tubes are rated at 800v. With Wizard in the 450-500v range no problems. Unfortunately the screen voltage can be an issue. Alot are not rated even to 500v.
Ive tried alot of different tubes in mine over the past 20 years. Not much difference other than the JJ6ca7’s, they really changed the bottom end and not in a good way. The very first set of EL34l’s blew right after I got the amp new. Got a different brand everytime after that. Never much...
I thought they Deliverence 2-12 was a great sounding cab. 4-12 was good too. The FB I had 2-12 was ok, 412 I did not like much.
Modern day 1960 (70-current) suck. The 60’s basketweave cabs tend to be pretty great, weigh a ton though.
My other guitar player had the same setup but using the Mosvalve. Those were pretty good amps, plenty loud. Before that he ran a Powersoak and Yamaha ss power amp, it was large and sounded good.
I also had a McIntosh MC30 I used. That amp was SUPER quiet and loud. Never did the slave into...
This is what I did back in the early 90’s…my main modded Superlead into a Juice Extractor thru my fx and then i to two JMP’s that had power amp inputs. Each drove a 412 cab. Great sound loud or quiet.
Right, but my comment was to a person that thinks Kiss is only Rock and Roll all night and 80’s aerobics lame dance videos. 70’s Kiss and Priest, how can you go wrong? Kiss Alive I and Unleashed in the East, good stuff.
When I saw him back thenwith Howe II he just had that amp and cab, tube screamer and a small rack. His tone usually isnt very good, but his playing is awesome. Learned alot of his stuff over the years.
We played a battle of the bands around that time and this Showman halfstack was one of...
Yes I know what the thread title says...I showed my example of how 6550's sound in a Marshall amp with a tweaked 2203 preamp, neither shrill nor hollow. And they sound fine doing ACDC. If an amp sounds shrill and hollow with them, don't know what to tell you, could be how its is set or...
