I'd love to try a Pharaoh. That's pretty much a staple in the genre. But, there's a difference between amp OD and fuzz.

I guess I need to revisit the OR15, but I didn't find it at all to be loose, doomy or sludgy when I demoed it at the local shop. To me it sounded more like a JCM voiced with more bass and mids than a vintage Orange.
Loucks has 2 channels, clean and dirt. The Russian Circles guy uses the clean channel with pedals. The dirt channel has a vintage-ish gain tone, but can actually can get quite fuzzy with the gain cranked. There are some demos on Youtube that show off the gain tones. It's an awesome amp.
I thought the Skyhammer was on the tight side and the Loucks and Meatsmoke were more the looser gain amps.
I would absolutely love a Verellen, but that point I'd be at the same price as a vintage OR80. Both of which I've considered, but was really hoping to save some dough this time around.
I...
Yeah, problem is there aren't any cheap 70's Orange's clones floating around. I did have a cheap JTM45 clone that I sold. I really liked that amp, but given the choice I think I would take a 70's Orange OR80 over the JTM45.
I love my JJ100 for that tighter Marshall JCM-ish tone. It can also do that newer Orange type sound with a mids boost in the loop (I use an EQD Tone Job). But I often find myself wanting something with a looser gain structure more like a vintage Orange OR80 or 120. Essentially I want the...
Will this ever happen? I'd love a small practice combo, so I don't have to carry around my JJ head and cab all the time. How close would the DS mini combo get to these?
Yeah the vocals are just weird, but the jam is pretty darn good. Brought me back to those tight jeans and denim jacket days.
However, I really wish more bands would get back to the raw sound of early Sabbath.
Caught them on their way through Jersey. Incredible show. Really really killer sounding. I would put that show up against any modern band on tour now. They really went out with a bang. Glad to see they were able to end it on a high note.
I don't think it's a gain issue. It's more voicing. When I spoke with Dave he said the JJ BE mode is more aggressive sounding than the BE and the JBE is more aggressive and more saturated. The Butterslax is even more so aggressive than the JJ.
If I had describe them, the BE is boosted modded...
I would agree on the JJ vs the BE. That's why I bought a JJ and I've never looked back at the BE.
I would also agree that more could be done with the JJ circuit and I would add the Butterslax to that. Why not do pedals for both and why not do small box 20 watt or Runt versions. A small...
So I may be the only person alive who really likes the guitar tone on St Anger.
I've read that it's mostly a Diezel VH4. I want that sound, but I don't need fifteen channels and all the extra features on the VH4. I just want that one tone in a combo or smallbox head. I don't even need a...
I don't know why anyone would not. It's a great amp with the stock tubes, but I can attest that I did notice an improvement with different tubes.
Why not experiment to find the perfect mix for your ears? You spent 4 grand on an amp with $10 tubes. Sure, I could be happy driving around a...
I just ordered a 2x12 loaded with a Scumback M75 and Celestion V30 for my JJ100. Dave uses this combo in his 4x12's. I realize that in a 2x12 the V30 may overpower the M75, but I really think a balance of those two tones is my ideal sound.
Only the JJ and BE for me, but I obsessively listened to every single YouTube demo I could find of all the models and without a doubt the JJ was THE tone that has been in my head of what I wanted my amp to sound like since sometime in the '90's. That extra bass that Adambomb mentioned was part...
JJ... best of both worlds with the modded plexi BE tone and the over the top angry JBE tone. It inspires me to play every day and it's the sound in my head that I've been looking for since 1989.
I'd still love to try a Buxom Betty though.
